Wellesley Choral Society

The Wellesley Choral Society was founded in 1947 after several choruses in the town of Wellesley joined forces for a holiday festival, and the Wellesley Community Chorus, as it was called until 1966, was born. The first conductor of the Chorus was Amy Young Burns.

Currently the Society has roughly 55 members. Our purpose remains the same: to study and perform the world's great choral music, both sacred and secular.

Wellspring Ensemble

n 2013, Evan Norberg was approached by music colleagues to form a choir because of his known, deep commitment to creating great choral music. Evan began selection among music majors, music educators, and musicians from his long experience of singing throughout Western and Central Washington; pieces were selected and rehearsals began.

Since then, Wellspring Ensemble has quickly stationed itself firmly in the Seattle choral scene. As a group, Wellspring Ensemble quickly realized that they were so much more than singers with outstanding musicianship; its members are carpenters, lawyers, web and graphic designers, and more.

Their multifaceted talents were the pieces Wellspring Ensemble needed to grow to more than the sum of its parts. A font of knowledge, a shared love for bringing excellence in choral music to life, and a familial connection to one another give Wellspring Ensemble a dynamic all its own; you will truly enjoy this unique, connected experience!

Wendell P. Whalum Community Chorus

The Atlanta University Center Community Chorus (AUCCC) was founded in 1966 to provide concert and commencement music for the Atlanta University Summer School. A notice from the late Dr. Wendell P. Whalum, the founding director of the Chorus, to a few experienced singers in the community brought an overwhelming response and they assembled each week for rehearsals.

During future summers, the group developed into one that included not only the graduates of the Atlanta University, but all the

undergraduate colleges in the Atlanta University Center as well as persons who had graduated from other institutions outside the Atlanta area. The initial number of twenty (20) singers has grown to as many as sixty (60), with an ongoing enrollment of fifty (50).

Wescustago Youth Chorale

WYC has performed with Portland Symphony Orchestra in their production of Magic of Christmas, Maine State Ballet's Nutcracker, with Natalie McMaster with Portland Ovations, York County Concert Association, Harlem School of the Arts in NYC, Maine State House, several festivals and retirement centers, many Community Fundraisers such as Make a Wish, Lions Club, Maine Council for Child Abuse and Domestic Violence, area Churches and Community Tree Lightings. WYC has also enjoyed collaborations with several other choral groups. West Coast Singers

Founded in 1983, the West Coast Singers is the third oldest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Straight Ally, mixed chorus in the nation. In that more difficult time, the original intent was to provide a safe place for Gay men and Lesbians to come together and sing. Now, in our 35th year, our membership and musicianship have both grown. With more than 80 active singers, we believe that the West Coast Singers is one of the premier LGBTQ choruses in the world, offering the rich, full-bodied sound that can only come from a mixed chorus of voices.

Diverse voices uniting to inspire positive change. In this vision statement, it perfectly describes who we are, the LGBTQ+ Chorus of Los Angeles.

With a broader definition made clear in our mission statement: Our quality musicianship, engaging choral performances, and inclusive environment unite LGBTQ and Ally singers to celebrate diversity, inspire equality, and build a community of acceptance.

As a community chorus, we seek to embrace the wide diversity of experience from all walks of life in Los Angeles. Members of West Coast Singers are gay and straight, young and old, and from various countries, cultures and histories who have joined together because of a shared love of singing and choral music. In the process, we demonstrate a positive example of diverse elements working together in harmony. In addition, we seek to educate and facilitate mutual respect between the LGBTQ community and the community at large. We also strive to be an active and giving member of our community...performing for many social and charitable organizations.

As a community chorus, we sing to our fullest potential, making the best music that can be made. Our membership is comprised of singers with a wide range of skill levels. Some are professional musicians, while others sing simply for the joy and camaraderie that comes from being with others who are also inspired by music. The result is a group that has created choral performances of the highest possible caliber.

Westside Singers

The Westside Singers have been performing in Portland and beyond for over 70 years. Originally begun in 1945, the all-male chorus was known as the Forest Grove Gleemen. When women joined the chorus in the 1960s, the Forest Grove Gleemen became the Forest Grove Gleemen and Girls. As time passed, the chorus grew in size, drawing singers throughout Washington and Oregon. The focus changed to singing jazz standards and show tunes, and the name changed one more time to the Westside Singers.

Today Westside Singers is a jazz chorus of 30 singers, ranging in age from early thirties to the 70's. We boast three members with over 40 years experience with the Westside Singers.

The Westside Singers have performed at all kinds of local venues, including civic clubs, retirement homes, and private parties. We had the honor of singing the National Anthem at PGE Park and Memorial Coliseum. Internationally, the Westside Singers conducted a tour of Europe in the 1970s and held a command performance for Princess Grace of Monaco. The Westside Singers had the privilege of performing at the 1986 World's Fair in Vancouver, B.C.

One constant throughout the 60+ year history of Westside Singers and that is providing toe-tapping, finger-snapping, hand-holding musical entertainment throughout the Portland metropolitan area and beyond. That's what makes us "Oregon's Ambassadors of Song".

Whiffenpoofs

Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Founded in 1909, the "Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions.

More than 100 years ago, on a frosty January night in New Haven, Connecticut, five of the Yale Glee Club's best singers convened at Mory's Temple Bar to escape the cold. Louis Linder, the tavern's barkeep and a music aficionado, welcomed them in, beginning an institution that survives to this day.

Of those original five singers, four were members of the Glee Club's prestigious Varsity Quartet, a group that sang together regularly at various alumni events. Unwilling to restrict themselves to performances at public functions, the group began to meet on a weekly basis at Mory's, where they improvised harmonies to the songs they loved so well. These weekly meetings soon became a hallowed tradition amongst the singers.

Who's Your Daddy

"Who's Your Daddy!": A Playlist For Today's Rock & Roll Fathers

For better or worse, we've come a long way from the days when rock & roll was an entirely pure form of generational rebellion. Even in my lifetime, I've seen fathers go from older dudes who yelled, "Turn that racket down!" to roving bands of aging dads in jeans and t-shirts who are more likely to ask the kids if they can sit in and jam with their emo bands. Where I live, when a dad tells you that he's taking his kid hunting, he generally means record hunting at Amoeba Music.

Wichita Chamber Chorale

In the early months of 1978, the Wichita Chamber Chorale was founded by Philip Coleman, Michael Pohlenz, Nolen Pridemore and Howard Webb, who had studied music education together and been members of the Singing Quakers at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. Dr Pohlenz conducted and Dr John Leavitt accompanied the Chorale before a large and appreciative audience at East Heights United Methodist Church on April 23, 1978.
