Fort Dodge Choral Society

Organized in the spring of 1968 by individuals who were interested in providing an opportunity for the study and performance of challenging sacred and secular choral music compositions; and to participate in the rich cultural environment of the community; Fort Dodge Choral Society is one of the oldest community groups dedicated to the performance of fine choral literature in the state of Iowa.

FDCS frequently collaborates with area ensembles from several different genres. Regular contributors include Jive for Five and music faculty from Drake University. Additionally, the ensemble presents concerts in tandem with the Fort Dodge Area Symphony. Other area collaborations include work with Comedia Musica Players, The King Ringers handbell choir, and children's choirs from Fort Dodge's public and parochial schools. As part of its mission to promote musical excellence in the Fort Dodge area, the society has commissioned and debuted choral works from area compose

Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers

The Mastersingers was formed to offer singers a challenging, all encompassing musical experience. The Mastersingers provide an opportunity for experienced singers to perform a wide range of choral music with strong emphasis on the masterworks thereby promoting and enhancing the choral art form in the Southwest Florida community.

The group offers singers the challenge of enhancing their musical skills while enjoying the familial atmosphere of a select group of singers. Selection of music is intended for the enrichment and growth of the singer as well as for the enjoyment of audiences.

Under the new direction of Shannon Arnold, the 75 voice ensemble of vocal musicians enjoys a reputation of musical excellence and innovative programs. The group performs approximately six to eight concerts each season.

Fort Smith Chorale Association

There were 35 original singers when the first concert was presented on November 22, 1981 at First Baptist Church. Since then, the Chorale has presented over 72 concerts.

Special performances have been presented at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the American Choral Directors Association Convention. In addition to traditional Christmas and spring concerts, the Chorale has performed several times with the Fort Smith Symphony, and in other communities throughout Arkansas.

Major works presented have included those by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Handel, Britten, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. The Chorale has produced ten concert recordings.

An average of 70 singers perform in each concert. With Mr. Cromer's leadership and the commitment of area volunteer singers, the Fort Smith Chorale is proud to be entering its 33rd season.

Fort Wayne Children's Choir

The Fort Wayne Children's Choir teaches music literacy to children from diverse backgrounds through song and performance.

Fort Worth Chorale

The mission of the Fort Worth Chorale is to excite, engage, and inspire diverse audiences; to change lives through the artistry of singing.

Founded in 1962 under the name Schola Cantorum of Texas, Fort Worth Chorale is one of Texas' foremost civic choruses and is recognized as Fort Worth's premier choral ensemble. The group, comprised of nearly 70 singers, " pushes the technical boundaries of what music could/should be."

The Chorale traditionally offers three to four themed concerts per season at various locations throughout Fort Worth and the metropolitan area.

Founders Chorus

We are a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and a group of men who love to sing and harmonize in the barbershop style while at the same time entertaining our audiences and putting a smile of everyone who hears us.

If you enjoy singing, there is no better way to spend Tuesday evenings! Our group is very inviting and we hope you'll take the opporunity to visit. We would love to have you visit and sing with us the very first night.

Four Aces

One of the most successful pre-rock vocal groups, the Four Aces did well during the early '50s with a narrow range of pop material but burned out before decade's end. Founded by Navy shipmates Al Alberts and Dave Mahoney, the act added Lou Silvestri and Sol Vaccaro before making a name for themselves around their native Philadelphia. After failing to find a distributor for their debut single "(It's No) Sin," Alberts founded his own Victoria label to release the single. It became a big hit in late 1951 and sold a million copies. Signed to Decca before the end of the year, their debut single for the label, "Tell Me Why," just barely missed the top of the charts and sold a million copies as well. A few Top Ten hits followed during the early '50s before the theme to Three Coins in the Fountain hit number one in 1954. Another movie theme, "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing," spent over a month at the top during 1955.

Four Bettys

The Four Bettys are the 2008 Sweet Adelines International Champion Quartet. With a combined 40+ years singing and numerous national and international awards, they share a passion for performing. The Bettys just love an audience, and have enjoyed a wide variety of performance situations including concerts, barbershop chapter shows, special events, serenades, or even drive-by singings. The Bettys have sung for audiences in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Nevada, Kansas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Florida, Canada, Maryland and can soon be seen in Oregon, California and Hawaii. Last May, the Bettys had the rare honor of headlining a show at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Four Coins

Formed in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1952, the vocal harmony group the Four Coins consisted of George Mantalis, James Gregorakis and brothers George and Michael Mahramas. Originally the quartet were horn players in an orchestra with Bobby Vinton, who was an unknown at the time. At the end of 1952 the foursome began harmonizing together, and in January 1953 appeared on an 'amateur hour' radio programme, which they won. They left Vinton in 1953 and began a residency at a Pittsburgh club called the Blue Ridge Inn, naming themselves the Four Keys.

They recorded their first singles in November 1953 for Corona Records, which led to a contract with Epic Records, a branch of the larger Columbia Records. Taking their cue from another quartet, the Four Aces, the group changed its name to the Four Coins. The group's first Epic single, 'We'll Be Married (In The Church In The Wildwood)', sold well but it was not until 1957 that they recorded their biggest hit, 'Shangri-La', which reached number 11 in the US charts and earned a gold record. The group had charted seven times by 1959. In 1960 they changed labels to MGM Records and continued to record for Jubilee Records, Vee Jay Records and Roulette Records, undergoing personnel changes along the way. They disbanded in 1970.

Four Freshmen

The Four Freshmen were one of the top vocal groups of the 1950s, and formed the bridge between '40s ensembles like Mel-Tones and harmony-based rock & roll bands such as the Beach Boys as well as groups like Spanky & Our Gang and the Manhattan Transfer. The group's roots go back to the end of the 1940s and a barbershop quartet-influenced outfit called Hal's Harmonizers, organized at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Butler University in Indiana by two brothers, Ross and Don Barbour. Their repertoire centered on standards such as "Moonglow" and "The Christmas Song," and they began to show an unusually free, improvisational approach to their harmony singing. A couple of membership changes brought Bob Flanigan, a cousin, into the fold alongside Hal Kratzsch, and suddenly the Four Freshmen were assembled in all but name, and that fell into place a little later.

Four Harmonizers

The Four Harmonizers, a Chicago quartet, competed in the 1941 and 1942 national contests and finished just out of the medalist class. They were considered a top-flight foursome, composed of Charles Schwab, tenor; Leo Ives, lead; Ed Young, baritone; and Fred Stein, bass.

In March 1943, just a few months before the Chicago contest at which they won the national championship, a new baritone, Huck Sinclair joined the group. Sinclair had grown up in a harmonious family. His mother sang lead, his sisters took the tenor and bari parts, and Huck sang bass. He had sung in quartets in high school and college and, before joining the Four Harmonizers, he was a member of the Capital City Four of Topeka, Kansas.

Four Hearsemen

In 1934, members of the Blackburn-Shaw Quartet, sponsored by a funeral home in Amarillo, TX, were paid a dollar each for singing at funerals or on the firm's Sunday radio program. Tenor Wendell Heiny joined the quartet in 1935 and was soon working full-time in the funeral business.

The quartet stayed together until World War II when three members went into the service. Heiny, along with lead Paul Ellis and bass Willard Grantham came home from the service in 1946 and started looking for a baritone. They found Dwight Elliott and in 1947 won a quartet contest sponsored by the American Legion. Two years later, Grantham dropped out of the group and was replaced by Jim Bob Nance.

Four King Cousins

The Four King Cousins are daughters of the famous King Sisters and members of the equally famous King Family.

The four young women, all pretty blondes in their early 20s, first appeared on TV on John Davidson's "Kraft Summer Music Hall".

Then they were signed to a Capitol recording contract, appeared on top shows like Jonathan Winters and Johnny Carson, and in concert with Buddy Rich, Buddy Greco and Stan Getz.

"Introducing" was their debut album, 11 heavily-accompanied pop covers, including a pair by Burt Bacharach, a pair by Lennon/McCartney, Brian Wilson's "God Only Knows" and other pop hits. Innocent, schmaltzy, nostalgic, top-40 fun from the late 60s!

Four Pitchikers

From a high school in the heart of the Missouri Ozarks to the winners' circle onstage of the Civic Opera House in Chicago is an even longer trip than the miles indicate. The Four Pitchikers made it, though, in 1959, to become International quartet champions. But they might never have arrived if it hadn't been for a chance, once-in-a-lifetime involvement with a man who was to become one of the Society's leading arrangers and coaches.

The original Pitchikers, natives of two tiny farming communities in southwest Missouri, were high school students; Larry Hedgepeth, Keith Keltner, Keith Young and Johnny Marriott. Bitten by the barbershop bug, they joined the Heart of the Ozarks chapter and competed at a couple of district contests while still in school. They called themselves the Teen Tuners.

Four Preps

The clean-cut West Coast-based Four Preps are best remembered for a string of Top 100 hits during the late '50s and early '60s, including "Twenty Six Miles (Santa Catalina)," "Big Man," "Down by the Station," "Lazy Summer Night," "Got a Girl," "It Ain't Never," "Moon River," "Lollipops and Roses," "My Special Angel," and others. Ultimately, the Four Preps' biggest influence can be heard via their impact on Brian Wilson, whose harmony-driven production for the Beach Boys was a direct antecedent of the Four Preps' sound.

Four Renegades

Formed in 1956, the Four Renegades slowly rose in International competitions until winning it all by 450 points in Boston, 1965. At that point they were: Bass, Tom Felger, Baritone, Jim Foley, Lead, Ben Williams and Tenor Buzz Haeger. There are 30 songs, and it's hard to tell who's having more fun, the group or the audience. Want funny? Listen to 'Mr. Bassman.' Poignant? 'The Little Boy.' Rousing? 'Waiting for the Robert E. Lee.' Spiritual? 'The Lord's Prayer.' The Renegades were funny, they sang great, they had class, and they were tremendous barbershop ambassadors. It adds up to a CD that's big fun!

Four Shadow

Four Shadow, the famous a cappella group from Minneapolis, Minnesota, performs for crowds across the nation, singing over 150 shows a year in over 40 states for audiences of all ages and musical tastes. In addition to a number of original songs, they perform tunes by artists like the Beatles, Paul Simon, the Dave Matthews Band, and Howie Day. Four Shadow has shared the stage with Huey Lewis, the Persuasions, and Lonestar, and performed live on NBC's "Today" show.

Every Four Shadow show is filled with a winning mix of audience interaction, infectious energy, friendly humor and strong a cappella vocals. One of the nation's hottest a cappella groups, these guys demonstrate beyond a doubt that the most powerful and versatile instrument of all is one which we each possess - the human voice.

Four Statesmen

Members of the Four Statesmen began quartet singing as early as 1945. The first International appearance was in 1964, where they placed twelfth. Following their win in 1967, they kept singing, with appearances on the Mike Douglas TV show and tours that took them as far abroad as England, France and Italy. The 27 songs on this recording include the sentimental - 'Try To Remember,' 'Climb Every Mountain' and ' I Miss You Most Of All' are just a few - as well as the lighthearted: 'I've Got The Time, I've Got The Place, But It's Hard To Get The Girl' and 'Crazy Bones Skeleton Ball.' Our favorite: 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,' with a beautifully-harmonized refrain.

Four Teens

The Four Teens originated in the Eau Claire, WI Chapter in September 1949. Three members - Jim Chinnock, lead; Don Lamont, baritone; and Gene Rehberg, bass, were high school students; the fourth, tenor John Steinmetz, had graduated the previous year.

On January 8, 1950 the four young men plus a friend, Mike Egan, enlisted in the Air Force. They had decided to try to keep the quartet together and enlist as a group. The five were sent to Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas for boot camp. There, bass Gene was found to have a foot problem and was given a medical discharge.

Four Tunes

The Four Tunes, like many African-American groups of the 40s and early 50s, were a pop rather than a R&B ensemble. The group had its origin in the Brown Dots, and was formed by Ivory 'Deek' Watson (18 July 1909, Mounds, Illinois, USA, d. 4 November 1969, Washington, DC, USA) after he first fell out with the rest of the Ink Spots in November 1944. The other members of the original Brown Dots line-up were Pat Best (b. William Best, 6 June 1923, Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, d. 14 October 2004, Roseville, California, USA; baritone), Jimmy Gordon (bass) and Joe King (first tenor), although the latter was quickly replaced by Jimmy Nabbie (b. USA, d. September 1992). While still with the Brown Dots, Best, Gordon and Nabbie left Watson and joined with second tenor Danny Owens in 1946 to record on the Manor label as the Sentimentalists, changing their name shortly afterwards to the Four Tunes.

Four Vagabonds

The Four Vagabonds were radio stars of the early and mid 1940s. As 50's vocal harmony lovers will tell you, the Four Vagabonds are grandfathers of R&B harmony. Their 1946 Apollo recording sessions links them to R&B recording history. Surprisingly, many educated black music fans are completely unaware of the Vagabonds. They sang popular songs, which some blues-oriented listeners may find challenging. Regardless of the repertoire, the Four Vagabonds were expert practitioners of improvisational harmony singing. The balance of their harmony is an extraordinary thing, the evenness of the four voices. The singers' pitch is exceptionally accurate, especially lead vocalist John Jordan. The Four Vagabonds' mastery of "barbershop chord" construction is evident in many stunning touches, most particularly the "instrumental choruses," which add another dimension to the Four Vagabonds' art. Objectively, their horn imitations is impressive not because it sounds so much like a brass band, but because the Vagabonds manage to make it gorgeous beyond description.

Four Voices

In 1993, when Bradley High School students, Chad and Brandon Guyton, attended a Harmony Explosion presentation, they had no idea what lay ahead. A few years later, they recruited two fellow Lee University musicians, Lester Rector and Jayson VanHook, to form Four Voices. Contrary to popular belief, the "Four Voices" name was not inspired from the obvious, that is the requirement to fulfill the prerequisites of a quartet. Actually, these young men met in the Voices of Lee, a 16-member vocal orchestra group at Lee University, where they contributed four of the eight men's voices to make a unique, harmonious sound that has gained international recognition.

Fox Valley Chorus

Fox Valley Chorus is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. We currently have around 40 singers of all ages, all walks of life, and from all parts of the Fox Valley area and beyond.

The main purpose of Fox Valley Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at annual competitions. We also perform Singing Christmas cards.

Fox Valley Harmonizers

We are just a bunch of regular people, of all ages, from all walks of life with one thing in common....the love of singing in the barbershop style.

If you enjoy close harmony and good fellowship, you've come to the right place. Don't worry if you don't have a wonderful solo voice and have never sung with a group before. Maybe you can't even read music. Many of us are in the same boat. However if you can carry a tune and have a good ear for music, you're sure to fit in just fine.

One factor contributing to the Barbershop Harmony Society's growth is the knowledge that a member does not need to have extensive musical training to enjoy singing. The Society welcomes into its membership men and women from every walk of life, who enjoy being part of a chord of music, whether it originates from the heart or from a musical arrangement.

The enjoyment of barbershop harmony knows no age boundaries. Our youngest members are in their teens (did you know the Osmond Brothers got their start barbershopping?) and our oldest members are in their 70's and 80's.

Fox Valleyaires

The Fox Valleyaires has been active in the Fox Valley, Wisconsin area since 1944. Besides singing, the chapter is very active in the community and has supported many local charities, the most recent being LEAVEN. We do put on several performances throughout the year and cordially invite you to check us out. We also welcome men that love to sing to visit us at one of our rehearsals.

Fred

Born in 1908 in Kankakee, Illinois, Fred was named after his father, Fred. Despite his early love of music, he would soon become internationally adored as a star of both the small and silver screens as well as the visual inspiration for one of America's most cherished comic book icons. In fact... oops. Wrong Fred. Sorry.

Fred (the barbershop quartet, not that other guy) was formed in 1991 when four members of Marietta, Georgia's Big Chicken Chorus decided that they were better without all the extra dead weight. Many audiences and professional coaches would argue that were probably wrong.

Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians

One of the enduring images of the 1920s is of the college boy in a raccoon coat, out for some jazz kicks with a hip flask and a flapper on his arm. Waring's Pennsylvanians popularized this type of image through their music, stage shows, and film appearances. The band was formed in 1918 at Pennsylvania State University by the brothers Fred and Tom Waring, and their friends Freddy Buck and Poley McClintock.

They first billed themselves as the Waring-McClintock Snap Orchestra and then became Waring's Banjo Orchestra before adopting the name of Waring's Pennsylvanians in 1922. In 1923 they had a big hit with the record Sleep and the song continued to be the band's theme song for many years to come.

Frederick Chorale

The Frederick Chorale was organized in 1977 to provide an outlet for talented area singers who wanted to learn and perform excellent choral music. The Chorale is known for the high caliber of its performances and its community involvement. The auditioned chorus has sung for many cultural, civic, and celebratory events in Frederick and further afield in Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., England, Germany, Canada, and the Middle East, as well as at the White House and on the Today Show.

The group's repertoire is wide: art songs and masterworks, classic American songs, Broadway songs, rock and roll, spirituals, and works by contemporary composers. It has collaborated with orchestras, dancers, military bands and choruses, flute choirs, children's choirs, gospel groups, storytellers, and hand bell ensembles. Recently, the Chorale joined with actors to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death in a unique program of dramatic scenes and songs set to Shakespeare's words. And in the summer of 2017, the Chorale traveled to Germany to participate in the Luther 500 Choral Festival in Berlin, as well as performing in Erfurt, Leipzig, and Frederick's sister city, Schifferstadt.

Freedom Choir

The Freedom Choir invites singers of all levels to experience the power and joy of singing in harmony. Led by musician and vocalist Elizabeth Melvin, songs are taught by rote or by call and response. Sheet music is ocassionally provided, but it is not necessary to read music.

Singers are thrilled at how easy it is to improve their musical skills when singing in a harmony section with others. Beautiful 3- and 4-part harmonies quickly unfold as the group comes together to sing in a safe, supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

Frenzy

These four talented women have performed all over Washington State and British Columbia, and entertained audiences with their distinctive sound and style.

Frenzy is truly an international quartet with Anne living in the Vancouver, BC area while Nikki, Judy, and Melissa live in the Seattle, WA area. Long drives and border crossings have become a regular part of their weekend rehearsals!

All four members of Frenzy are members of Sweet Adelines International (a worldwide a cappella singing organization for women). Frenzy includes two chorus directors and a choreographer and, between them, they represent two choruses: a cappella joy Chorus (Seattle, WA), and Westcoast Harmony Chorus (Surrey, BC). They are all chorus and quartet coaches and, in their "real lives", they have day jobs in the law, financial analysis, and teaching areas.

FreQuency

Award-winning Frequency is a vocal band founded in 2009 and dedicated to performing songs from the 70s to today with a focus on the story in the music. Music is part of the living soundtrack of our lives-the music that plays in the background of important moments and that we associate with our most important memories. With a passionate and thoughtful delivery, we take the audience on a personal trip through music they know and grew up with, inviting them to remember the moments and experience the emotions all over again. Like the old analog radio frequencies that first delivered many of these songs, all-vocal Frequency brings the audience a reminder of some of their favorites.

Fretless weaves the soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass voices of five accomplished performers into a tapestry of lush harmonies and fascinating lyrics. Our repertoire includes an adventurous mix of lively pop songs, Broadway classics, demanding classical works, and off-beat selections from the great American songbook.

Friendly Advice

Many moons ago, Dan and Bill sang with Fatherly Advice, the 1996 Seniors International Champions. After losing their bass, Burt Staffen, to cancer and their lead, Dick Bek, to a staff job at SPEBSQSA, they discussed the possibility of a new quartet with Forrest and West, who had filled in for Dick and Burt with Fatherly Advice on occasion. After all, there were commitments to fill and new engagements out there ripe for the picking! Following a quick vote among the friends, and with a slight name change to Friendly Advice, it was "on with the show"!

Today, the fours0me are frequent entertainers at local shows and special events, and plan to continue offering their own brand of "friendly advice" to audiences far into the future!

Friends of Harmony

Ft. Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus

Fort Lauderdale has always been a rapidly growing community, and we're growing our reach and our community focus with new venues beyond downtown, such as Pembroke Pines and Lauderhill, reaching out with performances in assisted senior living centers, combining with other Arts organizations, to commemorate historical LGBT events like Stonewall, and engaging together with LGBTQ High School youth and their allies.

Fun Center Chordsmen

Since 1974 our chapter has been very successful in building tremendous community support due to our participation in many gratis performances for civic events, especially the local Memorial Day event and other events supporting our Veterans. Our chapter shows have been well attended with program ad sales that often covered the entire show costs before the first ticket was sold! We have been very fortunate to have been holding our shows in the beautiful Renaissance Theatre in downtown Mansfield since 1982. A favorite presentation is our annual Christmas sing at the historical Malabar Farm each December. Our chorus has competed in many divisional and district events over the years. We are especially proud of having played a very active role in supporting the Singing Buckeye Harmony Camp for over 15 years, offering sizable scholarships to area choral students.

While a professional performance that delights our audience is our goal, we want to have fun doing it. We sing songs that delight the ear and the soul. We sing a variety of music with the exception, for the most part, of classical. Examples are contemporary and standard pop music from the movies and Broadway (from early to the present). We also sing patriotic songs, spirituals, folk, etc. Our holiday concert is a mix of Hanukkah, Christmas, and secular inspirational songs of the season.

Funtones

The Funtones are a group of serious singers who are anything but serious. Gainesville Civic Chorus

The Gainesville Civic Chorus began its existence under the direction of Elwood Keister in 1976 as the Bicentennial Choir, and played a major role in the community's celebration of the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. So gratifying were its musical efforts and so congenial were its activities that its members re-formed as the Gainesville Civic Chorus the following year. The permanent name selection deliberately underscores the Chorus' commitment to the cultural enrichment of the Gainesville community, a commitment which was quickly recognized. In 1978, the Chorus received the Gainesville Cultural Commission's award as the community's "best organization involved in the performing arts." It has also gained recognition by both the City Commission and the Alachua County Commission as the community's official chorus. Among the eighty or so members are retired citizens, business persons, university professors, professional musicians and others from many walks of life.

We have been an award-winning a cappella chorus since the beginning, having earned the first place recognition in the small chorus division (under 30 members) eleven times. In 2016 we qualified to compete in the International Harmony Classic competition of Sweet Adelines International and finished in fifth place among small choruses in the world.

We sing a variety of musical styles, including show tunes, pop, country, gospel, and of course the traditional barbershop tunes. We meet each week to rehearse, learn new tunes, and hone our musical skills under the direction of co-directors Diane Sherley and Chanda Morris. Several times each year we bring in master coaches to help us fine-tune our skills and stay current with musical trends.

GYC has two principle performing groups; Concertina Choir and the Concert Choir. We also have a Prelude Choir for singers 6-7 years of ag

Gaither Vocal Band

The Gaither Vocal Band got its start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having fun, harmonizing on "Your First Day in Heaven" when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. The audience went wild...and that impromptu performance marked the beginning of an era.

Now, for more than a quarter century, the Gaither Vocal Band has created a legacy of award-winning excellence that has forever raised the bar for male harmony.
