Rockapella

As one of the progenitors of the astonishing full-band sound of "contemporary" a cappella, Rockapella has shown every audience the raw power of pure vocal talent and originality. "There's nothing in the way between us and the audience; it's very human music," says Rockapella's human beatbox Jeff Thacher. No instruments, no tracks, no mirrors...but never lame.

Since the early '90's when they first achieved national television fame on PBS's Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, they've toured the globe and provided a funky powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, while keeping it all fresh along the way. With buckets of catchy original pop songs, and complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this group has always been the one to watch.

Rockbridge Choral Society

ormed in 1976, the Rockbridge Choral Society is a community chorus of amateur singers performing in and around the historic town of Lexington in the lower Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The Rockbridge Choral Society is the parent organization for the Rockbridge Chorus, the Rockbridge Youth Chorale and the Rockbridge Chamber Singers. Together, these groups bring to the area's audiences an eclectic repertoire of vocal literature from Renaissance to contemporary.

The Rockbridge Choral Society's mission is to present choral music at the highest level of excellence and to encourage in both singers and listeners an appreciation for the art of choral and ensemble singing through live performances, education, and the encouragement of new choral composition.

The choir also presents three additional concerts per season, such as performances of Bach's St. John Passion with period instruments and world premieres of new music. From within the group, the Decani (formerly the Rockefeller Sixteen) sings 2-3 Sundays each quarter, concentrating on music written before 1700. Thanks to a generous grant from the University of Chicago Women's Board the Rockefeller Chapel Choir will be awarding four $4,000 scholarships to outstanding undergraduate singers of all faith and cultural backgrounds.

Our repertoire ranges from classic harmonies, to doo wap, patriotic, spiritual, blues, rock & roll and novelty songs, all in close four-part harmony.

We welcome visitors to every rehearsal. We are always looking for men and women and who are interested in singing a cappella harmony (many of our best singers had no formal singing experience before joining us. We will gladly help you gain the skills necessary to sing harmony with us!).

Rolling Hills Chorus

Rolling Hills Chorus is an all-women's chorus founded in 1980. Based in Pasco, Washington, the chorus brings traditional a cappella barbershop harmony to their repertoire of American popular song. Barbershop harmony is a uniquely homegrown American vocal sound produced by four voice parts, with harmony parts both above and below the melody. Any woman can find a voice part that fits her vocal range, from high lyric sopranos to those who sing in men's tenor range. The warm sound is combined with energetic original choreography.

Chorus members range in age, occupation and come from all over Eastern Washington, from Selah to Walla Walla, to rehearse each Thursday evening at the Pasco City Hall Activity Center.

The Chorus entertains at community events, private parties, sporting events, and hosts an original full-length scripted show each year. Each spring, the chorus competes in the Sweet Adelines International North by Northwest regional competition. Highly competitive, they have earned first place in their division numerous times, including the last four years running.

Getting the sound and choreography just right is important to chorus members, but the friendships formed on the risers are important as well. In addition, Sweet Adelines as an organization is focused on lifelong learning to develop both music and leadership skills.

Roomful of Teeth

Roomful of Teeth is an eight-voice vocal ensemble that embraces the full spectrum of vocal practices and, through an on-going commissioning project, develops new compositions for voices.

Founded in 2008 by singer, conductor and composer Brad Wells, Roomful of Teeth is built on the premise that the membranes that separate one vocal technique or style from another are permeable, that any singer can learn any "non-native" singing language.

International experts in a wide range of vocal techniques - throat singers Ayan-ool Sam and Sean Quirk of Alash, belting coach Gayle Lockwood, and master yodeler Kerry Christensen - trained the singers in their respective styles. Next, composers Judd Greenstein of NOW Ensemble and New Amsterdam Records, Rinde Eckert, finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Drama, and Brian Simalchik of Williams College wrote music tailored specifically to the singers and their now wider range of vocal techniques. The collective performed these works, as well as compositions by members of the ensemble, (all music written in the space of eight days) to a sell out audience on Friday, June 26 at Mass MoCA.

Rounders

In a relatively short amount of time, Rounders has made quite a splash in the world of barbershop harmony. A new group on the scene, Alex, Sean, Dan, & Kenny bring many years of quartet singing together to create a wonderful blend of vocal excitement, musicality, and just plain fun. After only one month of singing together, Rounders qualified to represent the state of Florida in the International Quartet Competition in Louisville, KY. Following this early success, they went on to place 12th in the world after only three more months, edging out many of the seasoned competitors! What's their secret? Dedication, personal commitment, and a whole lot of hard work...a combination that spells almost certain success in the future for these four musicians. We think you'll agree when you hear them, so make yourself comfortable in that seat, get in your best listening mood, and enjoy the exciting new sound of Rounders!

Thomas, RPM Voices began through the efforts of Dr. Thompson, who offered the first Choral Music workshop during the winter of 2003 on the campus of Brown University. The first workshop chorus, originally called the RPM Singers, later became RPM Voices of Rhode Island and received non-profit status in 2010.

Rue Claire

Rue Claire is a close-harmony vocal-trio sisterhood, although only two are related. Mother-daughter combination Susan Miller and Rebecca Rand trade high and middle parts, while Theresa Madeira rounds out the trio as the alto foundation for bluesy-folky selections that range from bluegrass to Appalachian, and from Gershwin to contemporary indie.

We are driven by a common love of beautiful music no matter the genre, and are bound by mutual respect for what each of us uniquely brings to the expression and art. Founded in the Bay Area in 2012 as an a cappella group, we continue to explore our sound and expand our range, adding new arrangements and original songs to our playlist. All the while, a cappella remains at the core of our collective soul and we are humbly excited to bring our passion to the Harmony Sweepstakes.

Rumors

Rumors, the 1999 International Champion Quartet of Sweet Adelines International has been singing together for five years, but have known each other for more than 20. When they were jailed in 1993 for falsely representing themselves as sane individuals, they found that singing together didn't make them deathly ill, just mildly dizzy, sometimes nauseated. This was an acceptable trade off for ringing chords now and then.

All four are career women in very diverse fields. In a field in Richardson Texas, the baritone, Dale Syverson, is the entertainment director for a nudist community. She has donned clothes especially for the publicity picture and, as their contract specifies, for all show performances. Any afterglow performance should be viewed as an "attend at your own risk" proposition. Lead Judy Baxter, a north Dallas outfielder, is a crisis counselor at the same community. She is the top ranked professional in the field for creating crisis in a controlled atmosphere. Only Hurricane Andrew has a higher ranking..

Rural Route 4

When the Rural Route 4 won the international quartet championship in 1986, they did not exactly qualify as an overnight sensation. Organized in 1971 by four residents of Cass County MO., the quartet would not win the gold until 15 years and two personnel changes later. Along the way were dozens of contests, from the chapter to international level, and years of hard work. But there was fun too, ar the RR4 gradually built a reputation as on of the most entertaining show quartets around.
