All four were good students and athletes and initially chose to pursue careers other than pop stardom. Gene became a painter and a semi-pro baseball player. Vic was an actor and professional boxer. Eddie became a table tennis champ. And Joe won a full engineering scholarship to UCLA. He left after only a year, however, transferring back home to Boston College to study music. His studies eventually earned him a starring role in the Montreal Metropolitan Opera.

Under the leadership of founding Artistic Director Joshua Copeland, and executive director Stephen Sands, the ensemble strives to present as diverse a program as possible of the world's greatest choral literature, both sacred and secular, and has performed works ranging from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary masterpieces with a core group of ten to twelve of the New York metropolitan area's finest singers.

Antioch has been awarded first-place honors in the highly prestigious Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain, establishing them among the top rank of professional choirs in the world. In recent seasons, Antioch has been called "stellar," "flawless," "an exceptional group," and "a spectacular example of what a classical choir should sound like" by the national press. Of the ensemble's debut for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, The New York Times wrote: "The Antioch Chamber Ensemble performed ... with clarity of tone and intonation so pure that you could hear the buzz of overtones created by some of the close harmonies. The most daring of these often color the sighs and wordless exclamations that punctuate both spiritual and secular texts, and the Antioch singers gave each its expressive register: impassioned, weak-kneed, swooning." Other past performance highlights include concerts for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the American Choral Directors Association Eastern National Conference and the Festival des Choeurs Laureats in France.

In recent years, Antioch has earned a glowing reputation for its pitch-perfect and expressive interpretation of modern music. The ensemble gave the European premiere of Eric Whitacre's "The City and the Sea," as well as the world premiere of Bruce Adolphe's "Of Art and Onions: Homage to Bronzino" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, commissioned by the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. The same year, the group's second recording, The Passing of the Year (featuring the titular cycle by contemporary composer Jonathan Dove), was released by MSR Classic; Fanfare raved of the group's "flawless blend, excellent intonation, and enthusiastic but sensitive phrasing." Composers Paul Mealor, Ivo Antognini, Matthew Brown and R. Douglas Helveri

We believe music has the power to transcend all barriers of language, culture, race, class, and emotion to unite people facing a world of increasing factionalism and violence.

Ars Musica Chorale

Ars Musica exemplifies and expands upon "community" in many ways. We draw our singers from the area around our corporate address, as is customary, but some of our members come from well beyond northern Bergen County- New York City, upstate New York, and farther off in New Jersey, choosing us over choruses nearer their homes. Our brilliant conductor, Brian Mummert, and excellent pianist, Diana Hughes, have a great deal to do with that.

We are very much a part of our geographical community, performing four times a year in venues within the area. We offer beautiful and inspiring works from the best-loved choral repertory at affordable prices, and we extend our community by collaborating with other musical groups in the region, such as the the Northern Valley Regional High Schools, Adelphi Orchestra, and the renowned Newark Boys Chorus.

The sense of community has informed our activities throughout more than half a century; we are pledged to make every singer feel welcome, and many of us have become good friends. The members direct the chorus and shape its policies: the Board of Directors is drawn almost entirely from the body of singers, and concerts and special events are produced by member committees, with the aid of a chorus manager.

We are building a unique legacy upon our more than fifty years, by nurturing the careers of exceptional young soloists, and through the New Jersey State Children's Chorus, which we recently founded. The NJSCC trains younger generations in the importance of community, as well as providing the pleasure of making music vocally and the excitement of performance.
