Santa Claus Is Back In Town

Music by Mike Stoller, Lyrics by Jerry Leiber

Originally Performed by Elvis Presley

"Santa Claus Is Back in Town" is a Christmas song written in 1957 by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and first recorded that year by Elvis Presley as the opening track on Elvis' Christmas Album, the best-selling Christmas/holiday album of all time in the United States. The song has become a rock and roll Christmas standard. "Santa Claus Is Back in Town" was paired with "Santa, Bring My Baby Back to Me" and was issued as a UK single concurrently with the album's release in 1957. The single reached #7 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1957. RCA rereleased the song as a 45 vinyl 7" single in 1985, PB-14237B, paired with "Merry Christmas, Baby". In 1980, the song reached no. 41 on the UK singles chart in December in a six-week chart run.

Deke Sharon : Men's Pop Christmas : TTBB : Sheet Music Collection

Deke Sharon : Men's Pop Christmas bestseller

With elegant simplicity, Deke Sharon's arrangement of the Irving Berlin classic "White Christmas" gives each voice its moment to shine. The minimal homophony keeps the pleasurable chord changes coming, culminating with a satisfying cadenza progression that will close your holiday concert with class. Looking for something to spice up your Christmas program? How about the Elvis classic "Santa Claus Is Back In Town"? With plenty of swagger and swing, the tenor solo sits over a bed of playful doo-woppy harmonies. "got no sliegh with reindeer, got no sack on my back, you're gonna see me comin' in a big black Cadillac! Finally a setting of the Charlie Brown Christmas classic "Christmas Time Is Here" that doesn't require a children's choir! The sweetly sentimental Tenor 1 melody floats over and dips into a woven texture of rich jazz harmonies. Originally made famous by Kay Starr, this arrangement transforms "(Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man With The Bag" into a playful barbershop swing, with the melody in the tenor 2 line, and lots of right homophony.

Songlist: White Christmas, Christmas Time Is Here, (Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man with the Bag, Santa Claus Is Back In Town

Straight No Chaser : Christmas Cheers

Since their posting of a 10-year-old video in 2007 of a live cut of their version of the "12 Days of Christmas" on YouTube garnered over 10 million hits, these 10 male alums of Indiana University have gotten back together, recorded the best-selling "Holiday Spirit," and have been on one long reunion tour! "Christmas Cheers" is Christmas collection #2, and we have to say that the guys have not been sitting under the mistletoe, munching fruitcake. The arrangements on these 15 songs are sharp, innovative and funny, the leads and background harmonies recall groups like Rockapella, the Blenders and The House Jacks. Listen to the hilarious "Christmas Can-Can," the hot arrangement of "We Three Kings," the brilliant parody "Donde Esta Santa Claus," a wonderfully raucous Rockabilly "Hey, Santa," one of the sleaziest "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" we've ever heard, a priceless overweight Elvis lead on "Santa Claus is Back in Town," a crazed "Jingle Bells," a drunken "Who Spiked the Eggnog" and finally hear the guys absolutely nail the song that caused all the gefuffle, "The 12 Days of Christmas." None of these songs is left alone, every one has unexpected surprises, samples, segueways, asides, faux horns and kazoos, you name it. It just goes to show--creativity, humor and great a cappella are stone winners now, and will be winners 10 years from now. "Cheers" to one of the best Christmas albums of the year!
