One Voice

Music by Don Cook and David Malloy

Originally Performed by Barry Manilow

"One Voice" is a song written by David Malloy and Don Cook, and recorded by American country music singer Billy Gilman. It was released in May 2000 as the lead-off single and title track from Gilman's debut studio album, One Voice. The song became Gilman's first and only top 20 single on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart as well as his only top 40 single on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. Lyrically, the song is about violence from the viewpoint of a child.

Various Arrangers : 70's Pop Hits

Luckily the 70's were not just disco and here are some great pop songs from the era. "Longer" takes on a whole new sound in this fresh a cappella treatment by Kirby Shaw. Smooth vocal backup and great harmonies give this Billy Joel song, "New York State Of Mind," special appeal. This may be the arrangement to end all arrangements of "One Voice!" It features extensive divisi and dynamic contrast. The emotional impact of John Lennon's classic, "Imagine," is most timely in today's world. Also included in this package is an expressive a cappella version of, "If," the pop hit from the '70s.

Four Bettys : Four Bettys

Third in 2005, second in 2006 surely this fabulous quartet are the next heirs apparent to the Queens of Harmony crowns. And how worthy they are is clearly demonstrated on this fine recording as the ladies are in top form as they sing some classic barbershop songs along with some vintage jazz gems. Made up of members of the Melodeers and the Choral-Aires Sweet Adeline choruses the quartet members Lynda, Joan, Heather and Cori fine individual voices blend in great harmony with a spirit that shows why we love female barbershop singing so much. This recording should be in all fans collections.

Songlist: Put Your Arms Around Me Honey, In My Life, Happy Together, Sentimental Gentlemen / Two Tickets To Georgia, I'm Alone Because I Love, Good Old A Capella, If I Love Again, Original Dixieland One Step, Love Me Tender, One Voice, Kiss Me One More Time, One Fine Day, Great Day

Friends : Because : 00 1 CD

Friends : Because

These two CD's are the fruit of seven married couples, all of whom are members of SPEBSQSA and Sweet Adelines International. The ensemble includes Pat Rygg and Connie Miller of 4 Star Collection. However, though some vestiges of barbershop arrangement remain, most of the selections are show, Broadway or inspirational songs. Not exclusively a cappella, three of the tracks on "Ladies and Gentlemen," and four on "Because We're Friends," are accompanied in the easy listening style. Backing tracks notwithstanding, these fourteen voices have many years of part-singing experience between them, and their tuning, blend and expression are manifestly eloquent. Mixed groups have no officially sanctioned competitions at International as of yet, but can be seen competing at other barbershop events, such as Buckeye. Could be the start of something big!

Songlist: Set the Night to Music, Blue Skies, Yesterday, I'm Beginning to See the Light, Lida Rose, One Voice, The Birth of the Blues, No Not Much, Java Jive, Rodgers and Hammerstein Medley, Because We're Friends

Midwest Vocal Express : New Orleans Decoupage : 00 1 CD

Midwest Vocal Express : New Orleans Decoupage

Pride of Greendale, Wisconsin, the 58-strong men's a cappella chorus Midwest Vocal Express, brings us a nostalgic tribute to New Orleans, with a number of excellent guest quartets, Checkmate, JACKPOT!, Breaking News and Nightwatch, who blew us away more than once at the Harmony Sweepstakes Finals. Some favorites among these 16 songs are "Tin Roof Blues," the title tune (New Orleans Decoupage 'Way Down Yonder in New Orleans"), "Original Dixieland One-Step," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "Ja-Da," "Where the Southern Roses Grow," "Calypso Medley," "Alexander's Band is Back in Dixieland," "Zip-A-Dee Dooh-Dah," "Polka Medley," "I'll Fly Away," "It's Only a Paper Moon," "Teen Medley" and "Irish Blessing." But there's not a weak cut, dry eye or untagged heartstring here. "New Orleans Decoupage" is a breath of fresh, Southern air from one of the Midwest's finest men's choruses!

Songlist: Tin Roof Blues, New Orleans Decoupage, You'll Never Walk Alone, Ja-Da, Where The Southern Roses Grow, Calypso Medly, Alexander's Band Is Back, One Voice, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Polka Medley, Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Dream A Little Dream Of Me, I'll Fly Away, It's Only A Paper Moon, Teen Medley, Irish Blessing

T Minus 5 : Road Trip : 00 1 CD

T Minus 5 : Road Trip    onsale

We know we're in for a good time with the first rock-solid vocal percussion beats of War's "Low Rider" come on T-minus 5's "radio," which segues into Sly and the Family Stone's rock anthem "Dance to the Music," an electronic-funky, faux-horned masterpiece. Group member Shawn Satterthwaite contributes the sweet, romantic "Your Love," other nice originals are "Wrapped Up In You" by Wayne Kirkpatrick, and " Midnight Daze" by T Minus 5. Excellent covers of Lennon/McCartney's "When I'm Sixty-Four," "Mayberry," Barry Manilow's "One Voice," "He Still Loves Me" (arranged by our friend Richard "Bob" Green, and The Guess Who's "American Woman" add to the good feeling. We loved T-Minus 5 at the 2001 Harmony Sweeps Finals, and their great harmonies and down home song selection have only gotten better. Every song on "Road Trip" is a winner!

Songlist: Low Rider, Dance to the Music, I'll Still be Loving You, Your Love, Wrapped Up In You, One Voice, Midnight Daze, American Woman, When I'm Sixty-Four, Mayberry, He Still Loves Me, Show Me the Way

Vocal Majority / Mormon Tabernacle Choir : Voices In Harmony : 00 1 CD : 07464423802-0 : MK42380

Vocal Majority / Mormon Tabernacle Choir : Voices In Harmony bestseller

Two of the world's greatest vocal groups, one traditional and one barbershop, together in a single collection, recorded live in 1986 (don't be concerned about the sound or vocal quality; it's super). Three of the songs, "How Great Thou Art," "Love At Home" and "Nearer My God To Thee," feature both, and the remaining eleven tracks allow each ensemble to showcase their unique talents. As the Tabernacle Choir's director, Dr. Jerold Ottley, explains, the choir sings with "an openness of resonance, and the Majority sings primarily with forward resonance. That is, they sound brighter." Most of the songs are inspirational (and about half are organ accompanied), though "Danny Boy," "Home On The Range," "Windows Of the World" and Barry Manilow's "One Voice" round out the set. Both groups have a rich and full tone that is at the same time transparent and weightless; ensemble singing at its best!

Songlist: How Great Thou Art, Ode To Music, Sweet Hour Of Prayer, The Long Day Closes, I'll Walk With God, Suddenly You're Older, Love At Home, I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked, The Windows Of The World, One Voice, The Lost Chord, Danny Boy, Home On The Range, Nearer My God To Thee

Voices Of Lee : Encore : 00 1 CD : Danny Murray : 645757114527 : 645757114527

Voices Of Lee : Encore

Eight men and six women form the acclaimed Voices of Lee (University of Cleveland, TN), directed since their debut in 1994 by Danny Murray, apply their rich harmonic blend and top-drawer soloists to their fourth winning album. "Encore" begins with Barry Manilow's "One Voice," a jazzy, upbeat "Power in Praisin' the Lord," a striking, powerful vocal-percussion gem, "Mercy Seat," the heartfelt "Ho, Everyone Who Is Thirsty" (arranged by Derrick Johnson), a scattish, bright arrangement of "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High," the Doo-Woppy Gospel number "When God Dips His Love," the traditional hymns "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Have You Met Jesus" (both also arranged by Johnson), and a bonus track of "Mercy Seat," our personal favorite. Ten songs in total, and there's not a weak track among them. Confident solos, solid harmonies, great arrangements-"Encore" just knocked our socks off! It's one of the best Contemporary Christian albums we've heard this year.

Songlist: One Voice, Power In Praisin' The Lord, He Looked Beyond My Fault, Mercy Seat, Ho, Everyone Who Is Thirsty, Lord, I Lift Your Name On High, All That Thrills My Soul, When God Dips His Soul, The Old Rugged Cross, Have You Met Jesus
