I Get Along Without You Very Well

Music by Hoagy Carmicheal

"I Get Along Without You Very Well" is a popular song composed by Hoagy Carmichael in 1939, with lyrics based on a poem written by Jane Brown Thompson. Thompson's identity as the author of the poem was for many years unknown; she died the night before the song was introduced on radio by Dick Powell. The biggest-selling version was a 1939 recording by Red Norvo and his orchestra (vocal by Terry Allen). Carmichael and Jane Russell performed the song in the 1952 film noir The Las Vegas Story.

Various Arrangers : Singers Book Of Jazz Standards (Mens Edition)

All fifty arrangements of jazz standards in this book are written in a single line "fake book" or "lead sheet" format. However, they are not just the standard renditions of the songs. All are custom arrangements, logical suggestions for repeated sections, and simple but stylish song endings. The chords below the lines are the traditional harmonies. The chords above the line are more advanced, alternate harmonies. A musician using these arrangements may use just one set of these chord changes, or a mixture of them within a song.

Songlist: All or Nothing at All, Alright, Okay, You Win, Autumn in New York, Body and Soul, But Beatufiul, Cheek to Cheek, Day by Day, Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me, Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye, Fly Me To The Moon, The Frim Fram Sauce, Gee Baby, Aint I Good to You, Have You met Miss Joses?, Hello, Young Lovers, Honeysuckle Rose, I Could White a Book, I Get Along Without You Very Well, I Got It Bad (and That Ain't Good), I'm Beginning to See the Light, I've Got My Love to keep Me Warm, I've Got the World on a String, I've Got You Under My Skin, It Might As Well Be Spring, Just One More Chance, The Late Late Show, Lean Baby, Lost Mind, Lush life, and more

Dinning Sisters : Almost Sweet And Gentle : 00 2 CDs : 384

Dinning Sisters : Almost Sweet And Gentle

When we think of "sister" groups, the Boswells in the 30s, Andrews in the 40s and McGuires in the 50s are the best known, but of all the others the Dinnings were the next best-known and loved. Farmer and Mrs. John Dinning of Wichita, OK, raised 9 children, all but one of which went into a music career. Twins Jean and Ginger and older sister Lou began their career in 1935 performing with brother Ace's orchestra, and continued in one form or another up into the 1960s. Their biggest hit was "Buttons and Bows" from the Bob Hope and Jane Russell movie "Paleface." Buddy Clark, Perry Como, Kate Smith, Ozzie Nelson, Tennessee Ernie Ford and many others appeared with or recorded with the girls. This is a 2-CD set, and prolific is not a strong enough word: 24 hits on the first disc and 28 on the second (all big band accompanied). It's fascinating to listen to the Sisters turn a chestnut like "Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia" into their own love story, or apply their bright, cheery, sexy sound to might-have-been hits like "Lolita Lopez" and "Love On A Greyhound Bus." On every level the Dinnings deliver sheer entertainment with the best of them, and the hits just keep on coming - highly recommended!

Songlist: DISC ONE, (He's Just A) Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia, Beg Your Pardon, Harlem Sandman, Buttons And Bows, Where Or When - Version One , Aunt Hagar's Childern Blues, I Love My Love, Please Don't Talk about Me When I'm Gone, Brazil, Lolita Lopez, Your A Character, Dear , Love On A Greyhound Bus, My Adobe Hacienda, San Antonio Rose, Oh Mohah, Do You Love Me?, Fun And Fancy Free, The Iggity Song, The Bride And The Groom Polka, Wave To Me My Lady, Years And Years Ago, Melancholy, The Way You Look Tonight, If I Had My Life To Live Over, DISC TWO, They Just Chopped Down The Old Apple Tree, A Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow, Pig Foot Pete, Down In The Diving Bell, and more

It's a twofer! Two classic albums are included on this CD of one of the great male quartets of the twentieth century! Their ability to maintain perfect intervals in vertical harmony is legendary. Fortunately the legend lives anew as almost every one of their tremendous discography has now been remastered for CD.

King's Singers : Chanson D'Amour

Popular virtuosity exists! Right here on this recording of love songs. Love songs are written from every different point of view and you'll find them all here. True love and false, lost love and found, mother and lover love, fantasy love and down with love are some of the issues, presented in a huge variety of styles and periods. There are others, of course, but in this one album you'll find samples of nearly the entire repertoire of the King's Singers. This is more fun than you can imagine. The arrangements are truly inspired. From vocal acrobatics to vocal instrumentation and back again via some of the most dynamically challenging choral music, you will be delighted, no matter if your normal listening habits are in the classical realm or popular. Some of the composers whose works have been cleverly arranged for this extraordinary recording are Jacques Brel, Franz Schubert, Hoagy Charmichael, Johannes Brahms, Richard Rogers, Henry Purcell and Harold Arlen. We love this recording!

Songlist: Chanson D'Amour, Now Those Days Are Gone, La Valse Mille Temps, Con Amores, La Mia Madre, Who Is Sylvia?, Chitarra D'Amor, I Get Along Without You Very Well, All I Ask Of You, Dein Herzlein Mild, My Romance, She's Like the Swallow, Quand Tu Dors Pres De Moi, Love's Philosophy, Alice in Wonderland, Plaisir D'Amour, If Music Be the Food of Love, Le Papillon et la Fleur, Lydia, Phyllis Is My Only Joy, Wenn Ice In Deinen Augen Seh', Down With Love

Mt. San Antonio College - Singopation : Everything Must Change : 00 1 CD : Bruce Rogers

Mt. San Antonio College - Singopation : Everything Must Change

Mt. Sac's Singcopation, founded in 1997, consists of twelve auditioned singers who specialize in vocal jazz music. They have been invited to perform at many jazz conventions including the International Assn. of Jazz Educators, LA Vocal Jazz Workshop, and they have won the 2001, -2, -4, -5 & -6 Downbeat Magazine award for being the #1 college vocal jazz choir in the country. They are directed by Mt. Sac's award-winning Director of Choral Activities, Bruce Rogers, who is also co-founder of the LA Vocal Jazz Workshop. There are 11 songs, some accompanied by a rhythm section of drums, piano and bass. Our first favorite would have to be Monk/Hendricks' scatty "In Walked Bud" with wonderful vocal percussion and bass; Peggy Lee's "I Don't Know Enough About You," the moody title tune by Bernard Ighner, Cole Porter's "Get Out of Town," a sweet harmonied, a cappella cover of Hoagy Carmichael's "I Get Along Without You Very Well," a bluenote arrangement of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" and an a cappella cover of Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," also with great vocal percussion. Hot, entertaining stuff from one of our best collegiate jazz ensembles!

Songlist: But Not For Me , In Walked Bud, Dandaya, I Don't Know Enough About You, Everything Must Change, The Song Is You, Get Out Of Town , I Can't Give You Anything But Love , I Get Along Without You Very Well, In Your Eyes, Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing

VoicesIowa : Without A Song - Tribute To Hoagy Carmichael : 00 1 CD : Phil Mattson

VoicesIowa : Without A Song - Tribute To Hoagy Carmichael

Renowned jazz educator Phil Mattson's sure touch is everywhere on "Without A Song;" all the arrangements are his, and he produces and plays light piano on the CD (bass and drums are also included on some cuts). Mattson protegees VoicesIowa, students or alumni of prestigious Southwestern Community College's School for Music Vocations (4 men, 2 women) have a bright, effortless sound that invites comparison with the Real Group and The Idea of North. Technically there are just 5 cuts on the CD, but on the first cut, for instance, a sleepy "Without A Song," segues into a scattish "The Song Is You," continues with a sweetly jazzy "You Are The Sunshine of My Life before returning to an upbeat "Without A Song" refrain; and cut 4, "A Hoagy Carmichael Tribute," includes the lightly accompanied "The Nearness of You," "Heart and Soul," "I Get Along Without You Very Well," "Georgia On My Mind," "Ole Buttermilk Sky," "Stardust," "Lazybones," "Two Sleepy People," "Skylark" and "Lazy River." Two a cappella tunes, "Alfie" and the final cut , "Over the Rainbow" are particularly nice. Mattson doesn't waste a note, and VoicesIowa is an apt, finely-tuned instrument for his genius.

Songlist: Without A Song , The Song Is You, You Are the Sunshine of My Life, Alfie, Just The Way You Are, The Nearness of You, Heart and Soul, I Get Along Without You Very Well, Georgia On My Mind, Ole' Buttermilk Sky, Stardust, Lazybones, Two Sleepy People, Skylark, Lazy River, Over The Rainbow
