When Fred Bock left Word Music to strike out on his own in 1968, he decided to name his new company after one of the streets on which his apartment building was located: Gentry Street inspired Gentry Publications. Such was the beginning of what would prove to be a legendary career. He chose wisely, for the other street would have derailed his publishing fate before it even began: Klump Avenue. From the beginning Gentry was an imprint designed for the school market – specifically those higher-end High School, College and University choirs. Gentry Publications continues its long tradition of publishing choral music from some of the finest American composers, arrangers, editors and conductors.

This ancient Greek prayer asking for God's mercy has been selected for the Bruce Rogers Choral Series. The music is written largely in a homophonic style with shifts in harmony functioning like building blocks of sound. A great festival piece, it will be popular with high school and college choirs.

Ernesto Herrera : O Magnum Mysterium

From the Cristian Grases Latin American series comes a brilliant setting of O Magnum Mysterium from Ernesto Herrera. Gorgeous chords are introduced with haunting ss sounds before the warm melody commences. The harmonic colors are rich and beckoning. The strongest Latin flavors emerge near the end to the glorious alleluias. Excellent for advanced high school, community and college choirs. Medium in difficulty.
