Deke Sharon / Anne Raugh : Contemporary A Cappella Songbook II

Designed to be introductory primers for high school or other beginning groups, the Contemporary A Cappella Association Songbooks nonetheless adhere to a fine musical standard (unlike some beginning arrangements, which can be watered down and unsatisfying). There are informative performance notes and recommendations for transposing parts, to permit performance by all male or female ensembles. In addition, a discography suggests definitive recordings of these popular songs, which can help facilitate the learning process and educate the ear. Easy to use, the CASA songbooks are an excellent resource.

Various Arrangers : Jazz/Pop Series : Mixed 5-8 Parts : Sheet Music Collection

Various Arrangers : Jazz/Pop Series

The unique six-voice a cappella orchestration of 'Toccata and Fugue in D Minor' is used in order to fully capture the thick chord voicings of this piece. The swing section contains original melodies based on the already established Toccata theme and crescendos into a tenor and bass (vocal-drum) solo. The work concludes with the original finale of the classical fugue. Matt Falker's arrangement of 'A Time For Love' (originally written by Johnny Mandel)' is a beautiful a cappella ballad. The chart is written for SSATBB voices and features a male/female duet in the latter part of the piece. Issa Sorensen's arrangement of Bobby McFerrins 'Good Lovin' will bring the house down with its awesome groove. Not to be confused with the sensational A Cappella band with the same name, 'Rockapella' is an original a cappella piece with a slow, almost Baroque opening that builds into a high-intensity groove. Features soloist and doo-wop bass line for added energy. A lot of fun for audience and performers!

Songlist: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Good Lovin', A Time For Love, Rockapella

Bobby McFerrin : Simple Pleasures : 1 CD : 48059

Bobby McFerrin : Simple Pleasures

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" is the opening tune of a collection of multi tracked songs on which all the voices are Bobby McFerrin's. Five originals including the title track "Simple Pleasures" are interwoven with "Drive My Car" (Lennon/ McCartney), "Good Lovin'," "Susie Q," "Them Changes" (Buddy Miles) and Sunshine Of Your Love. Throughout this recording is the percussive chest thump which Bobby pioneered and really must be considered the origin of innovative vocal percussion which has become so important to contemporary a cappella.

Songlist: Don't Worry, Be Happy, All I Want, Drive My Car, Simple Pleasures, Good Lovin', Come To Me, Suzie Q, Drive, Them Changes, Sunshine Of Your Love

Heebee-jeebees : Hurry Up And Wait

You are in for a treat. This recording contains straight ahead a cappella covers with no production embellishments, sung to you by the quartet who placed first in the 1997 Northern Harmony, A Canadian A Cappella Celebration. You'll find "Good Lovin'," "Blue Moon," "For The Longest Time," "Under The Boardwalk" (nice gargle effect there), "Duke Of Earl," "Sesame Street" and more, eighteen tunes in all. Go Canada! Get Heebee-Jeebees!

Regency : Regency : 1 CD

Regency : Regency

Five guys came out of the Somerset Housing Projects in Baltimore who sang anywhere and everywhere-at the Jack in the Box they were known as the Box Boys. That name changed to Regency, and with many collegiate music awards and some personnel changes later, the group tours over 300 universities and colleges a year. At 1 pm on June 27, 1994, Regency went into the recording studio to eat Philly steaks and fries, and to sing and sing some more. At 10 pm they had finished an incredible recording session, 21 songs completed a cappella without overdubs or studio trickery. Some favorites are a pair of Presley covers, "Jailhouse Rock" and "Hound Dog," Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode," Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti," The Righteous Bros' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen," James Brown's "I Got You," The Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," "The Most Beautiful Girl In the World," the Isley Bros' "Shout," and "Day-O" (Banana Boat Song). This is the authentic street corner Doo Wop, with a bunch of guys who know each other as absolutely as they know the songs. This CD is a remarkable achievement and a real treat!

Songlist: Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, Johnny B Goode, I'm Ready, Tutti Frutti, Don't Play That Song, You've Last That Lovin' Feeling, Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Higher And Higher, Only Sixteen, Baby Watcha Want Me To Do/ Bright Lights Big City Medley, I Got You (I Feel Good), Summertime, Good Lovin', Let's Get It On, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday, Lady Soul, Sadie, Shout, Day-O (Banana Boat Song)

Various Artists : Northern Harmony 2005 : 1 CD

Various Artists : Northern Harmony 2005     onsale

Northern Harmony, Edmonton, Alberta's a cappella festival, the only a cappella 'battle of the bands' in Canada, celebrated its 8th year in 2005 with a 'best of' CD, 'Do No Harm.' Specifically, these 22 cuts represent all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, Audience Favourite, Best Soloist, Best Original Song and even Best Bass, between 1998-2004, by 16 groups, some of which don't exist anymore. Calgary's Heebee-Jeebees, who brought their manic humor south to our Harmony Sweeps Final, have 3 winners here: 'Use the Force,' 'Gitarzan' and 'Channel 12.' Quintessential's crazed country-western 'The Auctioneer' and 'Quintessential Harmony' are excellent, as is 'Let the Rest of the World Go By' by barbershoppers About Face. Contemporary group Real F/X do a hot cover of the Young Rascals' 'Good Lovin',' and No Assembly Required has a nice pair, 'Criminal on the Cross' and Billy Joel's 'And So It Goes.' Standing Room Only's very funny 'Mr. Taxman' (to the tune of 'Mr. Sandman'), OnCue's 'Name Song,' Voce's 'Let It Go,' InSync's 'The River (Sailing)' medley, CNote's folky 'Old Brown's Daughter,' The Fabulous Doo-Wop Boys' cover of Weird Al's 'One More Minute,' and CHICKAdivas' crazed 'Logdriver's Waltz' join our list of favorites. A cappella is burning brightly in the north country, and the pilot light can be found in Edmonton, Alberta!

Voice Male : Hooked : 1 CD

Voice Male : Hooked

Six guys from West of the Rockies are keeping the Voice Male tradition alive and they are doing it incredibly well. In harmony, they take you to the movies to find the "Rainbow Connection", you find yourself floating in the Acapulco bay with a humorous rendition of the "Love Boat Theme", and you'll be "Walking on Sunshine". They pay tribute to tradition with a beautifully arranged "Danny Boy" and knock around a bit with James Taylor's "Only You". You're funny bone will tickle with "Farmer Tan" and "Send Me to Glory In A Glad Bag", and your desires inspired with "Give Them A Vision". Extra special mention goes to "You Lift Me Up", a Voice Male original. Appropriately titled "Hooked" because we believe you will be!
