Sarah Saulsbury has an association with the Occidental Community Choir spanning nearly four decades. She first joined the choir at the age of thirteen, with the encouragement of her parents, Steve and Rene Fowler, who were among the founding members of the group. Her many years with the OCC have included multiple stints as soprano, Program Director, Assistant Director, and most recently, Music Director. Sarah studied theory and composition as a music major at UC Santa Cruz, but credits three of her mentors and predecessors in the choir-directors Allaudin Mathieu, Doug Bowes, and Daniel Canosa-with teaching her most of what she knows about singing, directing, choral composition, and arranging. She has written and arranged over two dozen songs for the OCC. Sarah makes her home in Occidental with her husband, OCC sound engineer Vincent Dupre. She still hasn't learned how to play her accordion, but definitely plans to, someday. Groups directed - Occidental Community Choir |
