I have always been in love with the song as an art form. The beauty of the human spirit and our ability to create, grow and express ourselves through music is endlessly fascinating.

Singing since I was a young girl, I studied guitar and piano, and wrote my first song at the age of 8. I was also an extremely reserved and painfully self-conscious young person, and was desperate to rise above that. This has led to a life-long journey of seeking out ways to grow and deepen my understanding of human nature. Of course, the journey included vocal study, performance training, and theater improvisation. All of these focus on developing presence, authenticity, creativity and confidence. I am passionate about passing on this info and coaching singers to reach their full joyous and artistic potential.

I earned a B.A. in music from the University of California with an emphasis on teaching, mentored by Dr. Albert J. McNeil, educator and conductor of the Jubilee Singers, a spirituals choir that toured internationally as envoys of the State Department. While at U.C, I had delightful experiences conducting chamber choirs and orchestras, and serving as vocal director for musical theater productions. After graduating, I continued with operatic vocal training, wrote and performed one-woman cabaret shows and was one-half of a Victor Borge-esqe musical comedy team that performed in Marin, Sonoma and New York. I've served as vocal director for local theater productions and was a founding member and songwriter for "TheaterNow, (Laundry Later)", Marin, which produced several original theater productions.

The Kayla Gold Vocal Studio opened in 1994 and has enjoyed working with young people from all over the county.
