Maurice Debar

Maurice is a music educator with over 40 years of music and vocal teaching experience. He graduated Hofstra College with a degree in Music Education, then obtained a M.S. in Music Education from Columbia Teachers College. Maurice taught in Levittown and North Babylon, NY, initially teaching band instruments in the elementary and middle schools and then strings and vocal music as well.

Maurice began working as an assistant director with the Whalers chorus in Southampton, NY and then became assistant to Joe Hunter at the Twin Shores chorus. He then joined the Long Island Harmonizers and has been its chorus director for almost 25 years. He is a certified piano judge in The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and holds a director's certification from the International Barbershop Harmony Society.

In addition to his responsibilities as director of the Long Island Harmonizers, for the last year he has been acting director of the Big Apple Chorus in New York City. Maurice also sings bass in the chapter quartet, "Just Duckie".
