Review: OneVoice is Decatur, IL's Milliken University's Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and "Esperanto" is their debut recording, containing the work of 22 student vocalists and a five-man jazz rhythm section, from the years 2005 to 2009. Special thanks are given to Milliken alumnus Kyle Lehning '71, who graciously recorded the rhythm section for "Chicago" and "Peace," and mixed both recordings at his studio in Nashville. There are 9 accompanied songs here, some favorites in addition to Fred Fisher's "Chicago" and Horace Silver's "Peace" are: Vince Mendoza's "Esperanto," the rhythmic "Bailando" by Greg Jasperse, a smoky, bluenote take on Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," the lovely, a cappella (with a sweet faux flugelhorn) "A Child Is Born" by Thad Jones and Alec Wilder, Bill Cantos' simmering "Morning Coffee" and Israel Houghton's joyous "Who is Like the Lord." An impressive and enjoyable debut recording for OneVoice!

Songlist: Chicago, Esperanto , There Is No Greater Love, Peace, Bailando, In Your Eyes, A Child Is Born, Morning Coffee, Who Is Like The Lord

Onevoice : In Praise and Worship

Review: Bowling Green, KY-based onevoice is 3 Guyer brothers, Derek, Joel and Warren, and Myron Whittlesey. There are no pictures of them, or any information-the focus being on the Christian message and the music. To make this all the more clear, there are 3 readings from the Book of Psalms interspersed among the songs. There are 18 songs, hymns of praise and worship, sung with deep feeling and in beautiful harmony by these four young men. From "How Great Thou Art Medley," "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Glorify Thy Name" to "I Stand In Awe," "What A Mighty God We Serve Medley" and "Days of Elijah," these inspirational hymns are consistently fine. An impressive, heartfelt first CD from onevoice!

Songlist: Psalm 105:1-5, How Great Thou Art Medley: -How Great Thou Art -Great are You, Lord, -Great is the Lord, Holy, Holy, Holy, Glorify Thy Name, Psalm 104:24-35, Praise the Lord, We Will Glorify, Majesty, Hosanna, My Eyes Have Seen Your Glory, We Bow Down, All Rise, I Stand in Awe, Stand in the Congregation, Psalm 103:8-14, What a Mighty God We Serve Medley: -What a Mighty God We Serve -Let the Redeemed, More Like You , Days of Elijah
