Vox Venti translates from Latin to Voice of the Wind, representing both the ability of the human voice to emulate a vast range of timbres and the diversity of the Windy City we call home. Vox Venti is celebrated its inaugural year in 2022. Under the direction of composer/baritone/conductor Ed Frazier Davis, it is a semi-professional choral ensemble of 30 singers from the Chicagoland area, dedicated to the synthesis and performance of unique, diverse, and emotionally powerful choral repertoire. We take pride in our ability to perform a limitless variety of choral styles with equal diligence and mastery, but we have a special affinity and passion for music by living composers, especially by LGBTQ+ composers, women composers, and composers of color. To that end, we are proudly dedicated to commissioning one new work from a composer from an underrepresented demographic on every concert. Audition is required for membership. Participation is open to experienced singing adults and mature youth. Audition Policy - Auditions for Vox Venti are generally arranged by appointment we are currently not accepting auditions for the 2025-2026 season. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at St. Chrysostom s Episcopal Church, 1424 N. Dearborn Street in Chicago, IL 60610. Quintessence

"Quintessence" is a meditation on death, grief, and the nature of the soul, with music and text both written by Vox Venti's founder/artistic director Ed Frazier Davis in memory of his late father. From the subatomic—the “thrashing quarks”—to the incomprehensively massive - the “diminuendi and crescendi of [galaxy] filaments”—Davis attempts to capture in music the multifacetedness and unknowability of our place in this universe as best as any one single artist can. Featuring the Vox Venti String Orchestra - Laura Miller, concertmaster - and clarinetist Andrea DiOrio.
