The Philharmonic Chorus of Madison

Philharmonic Chorus of Madison

Mixed Symphonic Chorus

Based in Madison, WI

We are primarily an a cappella group of more than 50 members, from all walks of life, young and old, from students to retirees. All of us auditioned.

Making the music come alive with such a wonderful, harmonious blend of voices requires an extraordinary director, and we are most grateful to have Dr. Patrick Gorman as ours, a position he has held since 1995. Under his excellent leadership, the chorus has developed a varied and extensive repertoire, from classical masterpieces to the modern and contemporary.

Much to our delight and that of our concert audiences, his exceptional program selections often include folk songs and lively spirituals.

We seek to promote choral singing on a democratic, autonomous, and self-sustaining basis. The chorus is, and shall remain, a nonprofit association, organized solely to promote the activities and objectives stated in our constitution. One of those objectives is to give back to our community, which we do by sponsoring young musicians via scholarships to the UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic.

The chorus performs in two concert series each year. In the spring we have three performances that are free and open to the public, and each holiday season we perform as a part of the Tudor Dinners at the Wisconsin Union. Several small groups have been formed for additional occasional performances, including Ladies Must Sing, a quartet that regularly performs at sporting events around the Madison area, a men's quartet, and a group of carolers who sing on State Street at Christmastime.

We love to sing, we live to sing, for you, with you, blending our voices in harmony and peace.

Founded - 1946.   A Cappella.

Rehearsal Information - The chorus rehearses weekly on Monday evenings during the fall and spring semesters
