Youth Chorus

Heartland Youth Choir was established in 2003 by celebrated composer and educator Barbara Sletto as a safe, performance-based program for diverse Central Iowa youth to grow their musicianship and character.

Thousands of children participate in up to 40 performances annually as part of HYC. Six standing choirs form the foundation of our programs, and we offer several public and specialty workshops annually. Heartland Youth Choir produces Iowa's Meet the Composer Festival, uniting young singers and choral educators from across Iowa each year to premiere an original song by a select, renowned choral composer.
