Songbooks for Soprano Voices

A soprano is a singer with a voice that usually ranges from middle C to "high C", two octaves above middle C (i.e. C4-C6). Of course some can go lower or higher. In four part chorale style harmony, the soprano takes the highest part, which usually encompasses the melody. The word "soprano" generally refers to a singer of this highest vocal range and to his or her voice. Male singers whose voices have not yet changed are known either as "boy sopranos" or, in the Anglican and Roman Catholic traditions, as trebles, whereas adult male sopranos singing falsetto are known as countertenors or sopranists.

Richard Miller : Training Soprano Voices

Review: A young dramatic soprano should not be forced into a soubrette mold, nor should the soubrette soprano be assigned dramatic tasks. Although all soprano voices have common characteristics, each type has unique features that require a particular approach in teaching. Training Soprano Voices addresses this issue directly by providing a complete and reliable system for training each type of soprano voice. Designed as a practical program for singers, teachers, and voice professionals, it couples historic vocal pedagogy with the latest research on the singing voice. The book emphasizes the special nature of the soprano voice and the proper physiological functioning for vocal proficiency. For each category of voice, Miller supplies a detailed description, recommends appropriate literature, and provides an effective system for voice building, including techniques for breath management, vibratory response, resonance balancing, language articulation, vocal agility, sostenuto, proper vocal registration, and dynamic control. The book concludes with a daily regimen of vocal development for healthy singing and artistic performance. Dozens of technical exercises, vocalization material taken from the performance literature, and numerous anatomical illustrations are included.

Songlist: Catagories of the Female Voice, Registration Events in Female Voices, Making a Beginning, Breath Energy in Singing, The Agility Factor, Resonance in Soprano Voices: Supraglottic Considerations, Nasal Continuants as Assists in Resonance Balancing, Non-Nasal Consonants as Assists in Adjustment of the Resonator Tract, The Sostenuto Factor, Soprano Vocal Registration and Vowel Modification (Aggiustamento), Accomplishing Dynamic Control, The Daily Regimen, The Wedding of Emotion and Skill

It shares the same features: a deliberate variety of music in different styles and languages, including a few sacred selections, with over 30 songs per book. Vaccai's masterly Method won increasing popularity with time, and was eventually used in conservatories all over the world. Even today it is often used by singing teachers, who consider it a collection of attractive Ariettas, each serving a particular funtion. Joan Frey Boytim : The Second Book of Mezzo-Soprano Solos Part II

Review: More great classical material for progressing vocal students, from the leading American expert in teaching the young voice. The series started with The First Book of Solos, and then, at the same difficulty level, came The First Book of Solos - Part II. The Second Book of Solos, originally released in 1993, is for singers who have taken voice a little longer and are capable of more challenges, but is still decidedly student-level material, and music that can be sung by good high school students. The new The Second Book of Solos - Part II set is at exactly the same level as The Second Book of Solos. It shares the same features: a deliberate variety of music in different styles and languages, including a few sacred selections, with over 30 songs per book. Available as books only, or in packs with two CDs of piano accompaniments recorded by Laura Ward.

Songlist: Du meines Herzens Krönelein (R. Strauss), Affanni del pensier (G.F. Handel), Ah, Love but a Day! (A. Beach), All mein Gedanken (R. Strauss), Allerseelen (R. Walter Michalak : Sing We Now of Christmas - Soprano

Review: Imagine how much more productive and efficient your rehearsals will be when you or all of your choir members have had time to rehearse on their own with a CD targeted to their specific vocal part. When you all get together there will be more time to devote to nuances and performance skills, instead of the basic learning of notes.Rehearsal CD has the featured vocal of your choice: Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass on the right side (or right speaker/headphone), and the rest of the chorus voices in the left speaker/headphone. That's right, you aren't alone, the rest of the chorus is there with you but your vocal part is highlighted and isolated for your convenience! The large-type, easy-to-read music book that accompanies each rehearsal CD, gives added reinforcement. For each carol you will hear the name of the carol, a set of tones, with the loudest tone being your starting tone, and a metronome click to start off the tempo and count you down to the beginning. The count will always be a full 2 measures before the start of the carol, and if the carol starts in mid-measure there will be 2 full measures plus the partial measure before the carol begins. It's as easy as that! If you listen on headphones and don't have a BALANCE control, you can simply move the left or right headphone to isolate the left/right playback sound.

Songlist: Angels We Have Heard On High, Away In A Manger, Coventry Carol, Deck the Halls, The First Nowell, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Good King Wenceslas, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, Joy to the World!, O Come, All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night, What Child Is This, We Wish You A Merry Christmas
