Blue Jupiter

Blue Jupiter formed in late 2001 and has already been compared to Rockapella, M-Pact, and The Blenders. In the short year Blue Jupiter has been together, they've carved themselves a reputation for delivering power-packed shows, stunning arrangements, and creative, inspiring original music. Hailed as "the next shining star of vocal music," They have spent their last year touring fifteen states, recording, and arranging, and have been growing in popularity day by day with help from their manager, The Blenders' Tim Kasper. With Kasper's keen insight and Blue Jupiter's raw talent and creativity, there is little this group cannot do. As a vocal band, Blue Jupiter takes every opportunity to explore and celebrate the power and versatility of the human voice, whether a cappella or lightly accompanied. Musical integriy is set at a premium: three Blue Jupiter members attended school at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, which may also explain why Blue Jupiter has been able to succesfully handle production, recording, arranging, and programming duties themselves.

Edgy pop-funk Blue Jupiter, who won Audience Favorite and Best Arrangement at the Washington DC and NYC Harmony Sweeps Regionals 2 years in a row and recently won Oreo's "Milk's Favorite Jingle" contest, which now is all over the radio, brings us their 3rd CD—the first two the critically acclaimed "Ear Candy" and "Scattered Flurries." "Live" has "no tricks, no tracks, just four mouths and four mics," all 12 cuts arranged, performed and recorded by these 4 talented guys in November 2005 in New York City. Smoky Robinson's "Get Ready," Cindy Lauper's "Time After Time," the Turtles' reborn bubblegum hit "Happy Together," a bluesy, funky cover of "Flip, Flop & Fly," the wonderful "Mr. Pinstripe Suit," Carlos Santana's classic "Smooth" and "Wrapped Up In You" from Ear Candy, the vocal percussion drum solo on "Steal My Kisses" and the driving final cut "All The Small Things" are favorites. Inexplicably, there's guitar accompaniment on "Drive," but the crowd is going nuts throughout, and so are we whenever we see or hear this energetic, dynamic quartet—"Live" is a stone winner!

Could this group be the next big thing in contemporary a cappella? Perhaps the biggest buzz in some circles has been for Blue Jupiter who have been compared to Rockapella, M-Pact, and The Blenders - and with very good reason. They are earning a reputation for performing high-energy shows (one of which was at the West Coast Summit) and are focused on becoming a full-time professional group. Opening with the strong original "Scattered Flurries" the group goes on to sing a mix of Christmas standards with a style and sophistication that showcase their solid harmonies, creative arrangements and obvious talent. Well produced and recorded a holiday treat for all a cappella fans.

Together for only year, the 4 guys in Minneapolis-based Blue Jupiter are making some major waves in the a cappella universe. Managed by Tim Kasper of The Blenders, BJ has the raw talent and creativity to go wherever they want. The style, arrangements, hell, even the liner notes are other-worldly! 12 songs, "On The Road," "Groovin' to Blue Jupiter," Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke," "Wrapped Up In You," "Hallelujah," "Green Shaggy Carpet Ride," a crazed cover of Sam the Sham's "Little Red Riding Hood," the lovely "Nightlight" (with light guitar accompaniment), the driving, bebop "Mr. Pinstripe Suit," a slow and sweet "Stand By Me," a brilliant cover of Carlos Santana's "Smooth" and "Song for Michelle." One of the strongest, most impressive debut CDs we've heard. Highly recommended!
