The quartet is a member of Mixed Harmony Barbershop Quartet Association, and in March of 2003 stretched their skills by competing in the Harmony Sweepstakes a cappella contest in Arlington, VA.
Sound Celebration has competed, and placed in the top three, at the Buckeye Invitational International Harmony Festival, in Columbus, OH, for the past three years, winning first place in the 2003 Mixed Quartet Contest. The quartet endeavors to promote and encourage four-part harmony in an interactive educational offering for local high-schoolers as part of an "After School Enrichment Program". They also sponsors a student at "Harmony Camp", a four-day vocal music camp for young men and women held at Ohio State University each summer. Recently the quartet performed at an area ÔRelay For LifeÕ, keeping the momentum going for the participants in the Òrace for a cureÓ. The quartet also likes to Òcelebrates the soundÓ, just for fun, at their SAI regional convention and SPEBSQSA district conventions each Spring and Fall.

Sound Celebration Basin Street Blues Home on the Range Anytime I Can Dream, Can't I Lullabye in Ragtime You Needed Me The Glory of Love I Wish You Love In the Still of the Night Summertime What a Wonderful World Gospel Medley |
The two men and two women of Binghamton, NY-based Sound Celebration
are members of the Mixed Harmony Barbershop Quartet Association and have been
ringing chords for three and a half years. Besides barbershop, their repertoire
includes country, blues, folk, spiritual, modern harmonies and doo-wop. A highlight
of 2002 was a second-place finish in the Buckeye Invitational Mixed Quartet
Contest in Columbus, Ohio, and in 2003 they won it all! In this, SC's first
CD we hear 13 great barbershop tunes: the title tune, "Basin Street Blues, "Home
on the Range," "Anytime," "I Can Dream, Can't I?," "Lullabye in Ragtime," "You
Needed Me," "The Glory of Love," "I Wish You Love," "In The Still of the Night,"
the Gershwins' classic "Summertime," "What A Wonderful World" and "Gospel Medley."
We like the whole idea of mixed barbershop groups and competitions, and SC is
one of the great ones, singing with spirit and joy in the music; bending and
ringing a barbershop chord with the best of them!
