Signature Sound sweet adelines quartet

Signature Sound was formed by singers who had quartet experience but had never tasted the success of contest quarteting. Christine Cook (tenor), Leslie Taylor (lead), Janet Ashford (baritone), and Lloyd Thomas (bass), registered on September 25, 1990, with the only name that at least one of them didn't hate. Their first Regional contest was in April 1991; they came in third -- their very first medal! The following spring they placed second and scored high enough to be given a wild card slot in the International contest in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1994 they won their first regional competition and were off to Reno Nevada for International again. Their goal was to make the top twenty, but they overshot (just a little) and ended up placing ninth. They continued to place in the top ten the next three years. In Nashville, Tennessee (1998), their performance went like magic, better known as a barbershop moment! They came in second place and were on their way to the "big top". Their most exciting moment came in 1999, when they were crowned the "2000 International Quartet Champion" and the long quest for the "Rhinestone Crown" came true. Christine Cook is the only member to have won an International gold medal with a chorus, the Vienna-Falls Chapter. She's a special education administrator and lives in Rockville, MD. Leslie Taylor, a 20-year member of Sweet Adelines, is an administrator for a private practice ophthalmologist, as well as a consultant for The Pampered Chef. She lives in Annapolis, MD. Janet Ashford is also a 20-year member of Sweet Adelines and directs the Pride of Baltimore Chorus. Janet works as a Real Estate Assistant. She and husband Phil have two sons, Ryan and Kevin, and lives in Columbia, MD. Lloyd Thomas is a 27-year member of Sweet Adelines. She and husband Evan have two sons, Jeremy and Andrew, and they live in Glen Burnie, MD
