Bara Vox is a Swedish vocal group founded in 1995. Since then they have made several radio and TV performances - both locally and nationally - and performed on several CD-recordings, both as backing vocals and with their own material. Their first record has been played on radio stations all over the country and has also been featured on a Swedish hit list with the song "H?r ?r jag hemma" ("This is my home"). Bara Vox is touring throughout Sweden and performing on everything from festivals to conference dinners (but has also performed on such unusual occasions as "after ski" and a football-game between Sweden and Austria). They usually do about 40 performances each year. In style it's easiest to compare Bara Vox with groups like "The Real Group", "Vox One" and "The Swingle singers" but they have created their own style.
They also perform a lot of our own material. All songs are arranged by members of the group. Bara Vox sings a mixture of contemporary a cappella and vocal jazz. Bara Vox consists of six singers between 20 and 30 years of age, all from Östersund in Sweden. All have some kind of musical education and most also work as musicians in other constellations. Their common link is the love of music and the interest in what is possible to create with the human voice only. The human voice or "Vox Humana" was the original name of the group, but when a Swedish political party with the same name started to make headlines, they realized it was time for a change. Everyone had gotten attached to the "Vox" part of the name though, and since they couldn't call themselves only "Vox", they choose the name "Bara Vox" or "Only Vox" which is the English translation.

Bara Vox...Only Voice, and a wonderful exploration of the possibilities of the human voice it is! This is the second album of the Sweedish mixed sextet who have been singing together since Dec. 1995. All the members are hail from Östersund, Sweden and each has had formal musical training in a variety of fields. The common link they all share is a love of the human voice and exploring the possibilities afforded by the interaction of the complete range of human voice from mezzo soprano to bass. Their first album was released in 1998 and received great acclaim in Sweden, accompanied by much radio air play and many live performances. This new album is a definitive statement of an unique and original sound and should extend that acclaim world wide. Begin with a mixture of marvelous original tunes and familiar covers in contemporary and jazz stylings. Add arrangements of such originality that you realize you are in the presence of something special, singers of perfection who extend the possibilities of the voice for fun while never losing the sophistication of the professional.
The ability of the six voices to sing almost any instrumental sound is amazing. The bass is so pure you'll just have to turn up the sub woofer and feel the whole house rock. You'll find such embellishments as a touch of signal processing to help create a vocal organ sound on "We're Going Up," along with an infectious vocal percussion and rhythm track. It is fabulous! If you wish to have your heart take off on a flight of lyrical romantic fancy, "Two Steps From Heaven" will do it. Ladies and gentlemen if your tastes are contemporary this recording is a must. If you enjoy sensitive, rich, rocking, beautiful arrangements this is for you. Though Bara Vox is Swedish, all the songs but one are sung in English. That one is a traditional children's song about a troll, his wife, their cat and their balloon. Ha and Ho, meow now or forever hold your peace! Amidst the covers are "Drive My Car," "One Note Samba," and "Round Midnight." This recording should create a strong presence in the United States for one of the world's exceptional a cappella groups.
