Go Fish is a Christian singing group that brings a unique sound full of variety and creativity. They sing for the Lord, and have a great ministry through their music. Jamie Statema of the vocal group, Go Fish, knows first-hand the power of popular music to reach a young life with an ancient but continually vital message. It happened to him as a sixth grader, when a performance by the band Found Free led him to devote himself to Jesus Christ. Over four albums dating back to the 100,000-plus selling Infectious in 2001, Statema has led Go Fish, as they built an infectious catalogue of vocal-centered music that merrily point the way toward salvation. The band’s name derives from a Bible passage wherein Jesus declares that some of his disciples who were fisherman will now fish for souls.
Go Fish was founded by Jamie Statema back in the mid-nineties with the intent of being able to offer something different musically. Go Fish has two passions in life; to tell people about the number one thing in their lives, which is Jesus Christ, and to have as much fun as humanly possible! Go Fish started as an a cappella group, using nothing but vocals and percussion. A cappella with an attitude, is what it was branded. The guys have made quite a journey musically and experimented with other styles, still focusing on vocals and harmony, but also adding some instrumentation. They are now back to what gave them their start, but all that much wiser and more determined to make their way in the industry with a different style of music.
Group members:
Jason Folkmann Bringing the rockin' high notes to the Go Fish sound, is Jason Folkmann. Jason lived on a hog farm in Victor, IA with his parents and three younger brothers before attending college at Northwestern in St. Paul. After a year and a half at Northwestern, Jason heard of an opening in Go Fish, which he was immediately interested. Since he was little he had always dreamed of being a singer, but the reality of it never seemed to be an option. Being able to combine music with the incredible message of Christ is the reason Jason enjoys being a part of Go Fish. In his spare time, he enjoys playing sports, riding his motorcycle, and helping out on his parent's farm.
Andy Selness Andy is the newest member of Go Fish. He brings the rumble to the group by singing bass. He grew up in the Great White North of Canada, and now lives in the Twin Cities area. His passion for music has been there since he was just a little tike. He plays piano and guitar as well. He went to Northwestern College in St. Paul for a year in 1996, where he met Jason, and sang with him in a group called "Voicemale", which was a acappella group of 6 men. He also sang in the college choir there. Ministering through singing as a full time job is a dream come true for Andy.
Jamie Statema Jamie Statema is from Sioux Falls, SD and sings baritone for Go Fish. He got the idea to start the group with a friend of his six years ago and a year later...Go Fish was born. Since then, a lot has changed in his life. For starters, Go Fish became a full-time job, he discovered he enjoyed writing songs, and most significantly-he got married! He lives with his wife Julie in St. Paul, MN and is excited about what's in store for Go Fish. Since Jamie became a Christian himself at a Christian concert when he was younger, he knows first hand how powerful music can be in reaching others for Christ.

Do Your Ears Hang Low |
3-man Go Fish have 9 best-selling collections of their Contemporary Christian original tunes in the PAC catalog. "Party Like A Preschooler, is all accompanied covers, although all of them feature cutting-edge arrangements by the group. But the purpose of "Party" is more simple than previous recordings, which dealt with Christian issues and ways of seeing the world, "Party" is simply fun, sing-along and dance-along music for kids, done with amazing energy, joy and spirit by the group. "Do Your Ears Hang Low," "The Wheels on the Bus," "Pop Goes the Weasel," "5 Little Monkeys," "The A,B,Cs," "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt"…these were as familiar as our breath when we were growing up, but we never heard them done like this. Kids will love "Party Like a Preschooler," and their parents will dig it too. As the headline in the liner notes says, this is "Great music for kids that won't drive parents bonkers." In fact there's a bonus track for dads, "It's hard to be cool (in a mini-van)!"

Snazzy |
Through six excellent previous CDs, Franklin, TN's dynamic all male trio Go Fish has long become one of our favorite Contemporary Christian groups. "Snazzy," their 7th, continues a trend that began with "Splash" when the "Go Fish Guys" became parents and directed their considerable musical writing, arranging and performance talents to turning on kids to Jesus. "Superstar," "Snooze," and the Showtime DVD, all excellent, followed, and "Snazzy" is every bit as powerful and innovativewe have to report, however, that the whole album is heavily percussioned and accompanied. That said, you and your kids will love these 13 songs, which "rock out," and do it well, more than any Contemporary Christian recording that we've ever heard. The title tune, "Stories," "Superhero," "Bible Book Bop," "Gotta Move," "Saved" and "Love Like This" all have an upbeat, hip Christian message that boogies down. "American Kid" is a patriotic anthem for kids that might have been written and performed by Aerosmith. The funky "Itsy Bitsy Spider" is one of the best arrangements on the album, "The Mom Song" is a hip love letter that everyone can relate to, and the refrain of "Jammies," "Get your jammies on--wash your face, brush your teeth, say your prayers, then go to sleep" is more good advice, that rocks, from Go Fish.

Joy To The World |
High energy Contemporary Christian all male trio Go Fish apply their tight Rockapella-like sound and cutting-edge arrangements to a Christmas collection, beginning with an accompanied, rewritten "Joy to the World," seguing into a surprising, upbeat "We Three Kings," with jazzy scat non-vocal percussion. An a cappella, traditional, richly harmonic "Away in a Manger/ Beautiful Savior" medley follows, a jazzy, heavily-accompanied original, "Christmas with a Capital C". A finger-snapping, mellow a cappella "White Christmas," a thought-provoking "It's About the Cross," plus the rhythmic, powerful "Little Drummer Boy." round out the album.

Snooze |
Since they have all married and some have become fathers, the members of one of our favorite Contemporary Christian groups, all-male a cappella trio Go Fish, have released some excellent material directed at their own and other children. "Splash," "Superstar" and the new DVD, "Showtime" are all winners, and "Snooze" is no exception. We were especially impressed with originals by group member Jamie Statema, who wrote the sweet title tune, "Little Buckaroo," "You Are Mine," "You're My Little Girl" and "Awake." We also liked the traditional "SkinnaMarinkyDinkyDink" and a pair of originals by Billy Sprague, "Sail Away" and "Welcome to the World." You can see the love here in the faces of the 3 dads, feel it in their voices as they sing these touching songs, and hear it in the lyrics. "You Are Mine" is a powerful lullabye, letting a child know that they are unconditionally loved and protected as they go to sleepa big improvement on the fairly scary concept of "If I should die before I wake." Great stuff especially for parents and children from Go Fish!

I See You |
The three talented men of Tennessee-based Go Fish, whose finely-crafted original songs have graced 6 previous CDs and 1 DVD, which are some of our favorite, and best-selling Contemporary Christian recordings. When two of the men became fathers, they turned their songwriting and live-performance talents towards children, and they have created a remarkably popular body of work, selling over 500,000 CDs and DVDs. For a cappella purists, that a few CDs ago Go Fish went (rock-band) accompanied, and they have continued that trend. That said, we're once again amazed by the energy, joy and creativity of "Infectious," which is defined on the back of the liner notes as "something that is easily and readily communicated," and that "few things are more infectious than a godly lifestyle." 10 songs, plus bonus track ("Silent Night," from "More Than a Story." Favorites are "I See You," "Until The Stars Fall," "That's What Amazes Me," the title tune, "Watch Me Go," "Clover Leaf Park," "You're My Little Girl," "You Remind Me" and "Lord I Give You Me." There's a lot of love and feeling in "Infectious," the product of the consistent, beautiful and creative ministry of these talented young men!

Silent Night |
The four young men of Go Fish have a polished, tight and professional sound, and though they are contemporary Christian, with a lyrical emphasis on a message that can't be missed, they have much in common with Rockapella and the Blenders. Indeed, the Blenders' own Darren Rust mixed this CD, which includes half original compositions, as well as holiday perennials such as "Angels We Have Heard On High," "Silent Night," and "Away In The Manger," though, in the case of "Angels," the Go Fish version is a 90's dance-mix. Likewise, "Silent Night" is only recognizable by the words - the rhythm, melody and harmonization has been created anew. "More Than A Story" is a musical dramatization, with a newscaster's voiceover, telling the tale of the birth of Jesus. Includes drum and percussion accompaniment.

Go Fish Theme |
Go Fish, one of our favorite Contemporary Christian groups, is an a cappella trio comprised of 3 young men, 2 of them fathers, who have toured across the country and sold over 500,000 albums. Jamie, Jason and Andy, those "Go Fish Guys," possibly because of their experiences with parenthood, have directed their ministry at children and their parents, with joyous results. Their CDs "Splash," "Superstar, the recently released "Snooze" and this new DVD, "Showtime" are all winners. "Showtime" features songs from "Splash" and "Superstar," and it is performed before (and with) an adoring, excited audience of kids and their parents. Interspersed with songs and silliness at the local county fair, the guys perform "Superstar," "I've Got the Joy," "The Crazy Dance," "The Ten Commandment Boogie," "This Little Light of Mine" and "That Acappella Sound." "Showtime" is advertised as "Great music for kids that won't drive their parents bonkers!"indeed, far from it, people of all ages in the audience are up, dancing and singing along. Learning about Jesus and the teachings of the Bible becomes a celebration here, and everybody's included. Go, Fish!
