The Sheps are without a doubt one of the most popular acappella groups in the N.Y.- N.J. circuit today. We have the credentials to prove it! The five part vocal group consists of original members, Tommie Shider and Richie Camacho, along with Charles Coleman and Johnnie Barlow. All residing in New Jersey. Tommy Lockhart, the fifth member lives in New York. All five members have "paid their dues" so to speak, as in gaining experience to form one of the most unique blends of harmony today! They are all committed to singing many songs that other groups won't even touch. It is for the fact that they do these obscure songs so well, that it is no wonder that a fan club was formed immediately after their very first performance! Upon receiving awards and plaques over the years, this has not changed the way the guys feel about 'really keeping the music alive!" Also these fellows have one of the highest reputations for being back-up forces for such greats as Pirkle Lee Moses, leader of the Eldorados, Otis Williams leader of the legendary Charms, Ray Wooten, leader of the Mellow Moods, Johnny Bragg, leader of the Prisonaires, Ray Pollard, leader of the Wanderers, the incredible Ruth McFadden, Bobby Mansfield, leader of the Wrens, Harvey Fuqua of the Moonglows, along with an impressive list of many more. With all this going for them, they still find the time to create their original songs in which they are constantly turning out.

Ronnie I Acappella Productions and Clifton Music bring us another authentic Doo-Wop collection, this one a "Tribute to the Immortal Legends of Pioneer R&B." The 6-man Sheps, step off of a 1950s New Jersey streetcorner to sing 18 a cappella Doo-Wop classics, which mix some of their own material (the title tune, "It's All Over Now" and "Rudy, This One's for You"), with some rarely-heard material from the 1950s and early 60s, like the Prisonaires' "A Prisoner's Prayer," the Midnighters' "Why are We Apart," the El Dorados' "There in the Night" and "Lights are Low," the Strangers' "Beg and Steal" and "Blue Flowers," the Five Blue Flames' "My Love is Gone," the Mellomoods' "Call on Me," the El Capris' "Oh But She Did," the Chimes' "Dearest Darling," the Platters' "My Prayer" and the Heartbeats' "500 Miles to Go." With soaring leads, sweet harmonies, and authentic songs many Doo-Wop fans like us have never heard, "They're Singing in The Sky" is a musical present from the 1950s, gift-wrapped by Ronnie I and the Sheps.

Presented as "a tribute to the Authentic Roots, 1950's RnB Groups,
"Destiny" is several cuts above your average Doo-Wop CD. First, the material
concentrates on that of mid-50's groups, primarily those from Chicago and New
York. Songs like the Pipes' "Be Fair," The Velours' "Romeo," The Crows' "Baby
Doll," "Call A Doctor" and "I Love You So," The Orchids' "Newly Wed" and The
Diablos' "The Wind"these songs are the real thing, and take us back to the
years when streetcorner Doo-Wop was a ticket for some very talented singers
and songwriters into recording studios and onto the radio and tv. Clean, sweet,
in-tune leads by 5 guys who have paid their dues, and the arrangements (by Tommie
Shider), don't take the easy path of many groups. There's 23 songs, including
two nice originals, the title tune and "UGHA." A couple of songs are accompanied,
but trust us, "Destiny" is a treat by a group that takes care of business!

The Sheps are one of those rare groups which received almost instant
success and public acclaim. Tommy Shinder formed the group in late 1992 after
a long search for kindred spirits who loved to sing the music of the early R&B
groups. Their name honors James Sheppard of both the Heartbeats and Limelites.
In their first year of performing they won the UGHA's (United In Group Harmony
Association) prestigious award, Rookie Of The Year-1993, and in unprecedented
triumph were declared the Veteran Group Of The Year in 1994. This award winning
quintet have their harmonic sensibilities firmly rooted in the 1950's as they
emulate the Mellomoods ('Where Are You,' 'I'm Lost,' 'How Could You'), the Heartbeats,
the Five Keys, Flamingos and more. Included is one original composition, the
title track, 'Me, My Tears and a Jukebox' which might have written in 1954 except
it mentions all the groups they love. Great!
