

The internationally acclaimed University of Utah Singers recently returned from a triumphant concert tour of France and Spain where they were the Winners of the European Grand Prix International Choir Competition in Tolosa, Spain! The invitation to compete in this prestigious contest of the best international choirs came as a result of winning the Grand Prize at the 2005 Florilège Vocal de Tours International Choir Competition in Tours, France where they also won five additional prizes: First Prize in the Free Program, Second Prize in the Mixed Choircategory, the Ronsard Prize for the best performance of a Renaissance piece based on a poem by Ronsard, the prize A Coeur Joie Internationalfor the best French diction during the competition, and the prize OEuvre de Creation for the best newly composed work in the competition (William Hawley's Flos ut rosa Floruit). They have also been featured on French National Television at the Nancy International Choir Festival in Nancy, France and in concerts throughout Spain, France, Germany, and The Netherlands. They will return to Europe in 2007 as celebrities to perform at the 12th International Choir Festival en Provence, the Festival des Choeurs Lauréats; and the 19th Festival "Choralies de Vaison-la-Romaine", France.
The University of Utah Singers have been featured at the Inauguration Ceremony for Governor Olene Walker, the 2004 Opening Session of the Utah State Senate, and were selected by the Barlow Endowment for Music Composition to premiere Judith Bingham's Ghost Towns of the American West in 2007 as part of an international performing consortium of choirs which includes Vocal Essence (Philip Brunelle, conductor) and the BBC Singers (Stephen Cleobury, conductor). They have collaborated with the 23rd Army Band, the Utah Philharmonia, the Salt Lake Choral Artists, the University of Utah Wind Ensemble, A Cappella Choir and Women's Choir, and with the BYU Singers and Concert Choir. The Singers are regularly featured in concerts at Libby Gardner Concert Hall and have performed in the Salt Lake Tabernacle, the Assembly Hall on Temple Square, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine. They have recently performed at the Western Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Convention of the Music Educators National Conference.
