
The American BarberBoys finished 2nd at the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America's (SPEBSQSA) annual Central States District's Contest in Omaha, Nebraska. The contest was held October 9 - 11, 1998. Each year the district champion automatically qualifies for the SPEBSQSA's International Chorus Contest. The contest will be held this year in Anaheim, CA over the July 4th, 1999 weekend. In addition to the district champions, four additional wildcard invitations for the International Contest are extended to the four highest scoring choruses nation wide that did not win their district contest. The American BarberBoys compiled a composite score of 995, and earned a wildcard invitation! Last year, for the first time in their short history, the American BarberBoys qualified for the International Chorus Competition by being selected as an at large competitor. Each year SPEBSQSA awards four at large invitations to the International Chorus Competition to the four highest scoring choruses that don't win their respective district contests.
