Philadelphia, in its heyday and today, is a place where a cappella Doo-Wop has been sung, recorded, appreciated and preserved. In that spirit, Ronnie I has brought together 6 of the best contemporary Doo-Wop groups in his recording studio, 'Cornerstone,' '5/3 Woodland,' 'Classic Harmony,' 'Steel Belted Radials,' 'Hearts of Stone' and 'Street Corner 5' to record material from the mid-50s to early 60s. 13 of the 19 cuts were originated by NY or Philly groups. Favorites are 'Shadows' by Cornerstone, 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool' by Steel Belted Radials,' 'Babalu's Wedding Day' by 5/3 Woodland, 'Stand By Me' by Hearts of Stone, 'I'm So Young' by Classic Harmony and 'Welcome Home' by Street Corner 5. There's a lot of material here we've never heard before, nicely done by some of the best Doo-Wop groups in Philly! |
