The Blue Stars recorded and performed from the mid-1970s to their excellent a cappella recordings for the Clifton label in the early 90s. This CD contains the 16 cuts from the United in Group Harmony Association Award-winning 1991 release 'Blue Velvet,' plus 9 previously unreleased cuts recorded from 1994 to 1996. The group's covers concentrate on legendary groups and classic 50s versions. This is exuberant, street-corner doo-wop and lots of it, heavy on the harmony! There's a list of the 25 songs in the liner notes, followed by the name of the group that recorded it, the label, the year and the member of the Stars who's singing lead. From relatively unknown hits like the Marcels' 'Sweet Was The Wine,' the Five Keys' 'Deep In My Heart' and the 4 Vagabonds' 'Rosy the Riveter' to better known hits like the Clovers' 'Blue Velvet' and the Chords' 'Sh-Boom,' this is all authentic, soulful stuff.
