Ronnie I and his Clifton Records continue to produce a proliferation of doo-wop CD's - this 1999 collection includes 15 previously-unreleased tracks, of 26 in total. Groups such as Charm, the Emerys, Camelots, Choice, Sheps and Attributes, some of whom never made it big, or even into the record books, but were nonetheless distinctive contributors to the doo-wop scene, are preserved on the Showdown Series. What an opportunity to check out rare and collector's cuts, from the Emerys' version of 'Baby, Walk On In,' (written by the Shells' Nathaniel Bouknight and Hiram Johnson), the Four Fellows performance of Hoagy Carmichael's 'Skylark' and the Attributes peformance of 'So Much,' as popularized by Little Anthony and the Imperials and written by Richard Barrett of the Valentines, one of New York's most representative doo-wop groups...a wealth of material! |
