For nearly 40 years, the King's Singers have delighted audiences around the world with their charm, wit and incomparable musicianship. Esteemed for the authenticity of their period style and their exemplary word painting, the King's Singers are 'still unmatched for their musicality and sheer ability to entertain' (The London Times). Joining them for this recording is Sarband, an instrumental ensemble renowned for demonstrating the connections between European, Islamic and Jewish musical cultures. Celebrating the symbiotic relationship between the Orient and the Occident, Sarband's mission is to show that music is a form of communication in which people can find common ground and respect for one another. On Sacred Bridges, these two groups unite in celebration of the rich connections - literally sacred bridges - between Christianity, Islam and Judaism. The program consists of settings of four Psalms of David to music by Christian, Jewish and Muslim composers that demonstrate the central importance of the works to the three religions. The artists demonstrate that by examining the similarities and bridges among each religion, we can forge tolerance and understanding in a world that desperately needs more of each. |
