Directed by Weston Noble
"The Noble Legacy" is a celebration of renowned director Weston Noble's 57 years of directing the 74-mixed voice Nordic Choir, on the occasion of his 82nd birthday and his retirement. The 2-CD "best of" recording begins with Knut Nystedt's "Be Not Afraid," recorded in 1995, and covers 32 more selections up to Tomas de Vittoria's "Vere Languores," recorded by the Choir in 2004. Bach's "Der Geist Hilft Unsrer Schwachheit Auf" and "Lobet Den Herrn," Eric Whitacre's "Water Night" and "Sleep," Paul Christiansen's "And I Heard A Great Voice," John Tavener's "Song for Athene," Paul Weber's "Arise, Shine," Lauridsen's "O Nata Lux" and James Fritschel's "Qui Sedes" are particularly fine, but under Noble's direction there's not a weak selection here. There's a detailed history of Weston's life, up to this point, in the liner notes. |
