It was a fortuitous meeting that brought these two men and two women singers together, who have very diverse interests and careers, but share a common joy in singing a cappella music. All four are accomplished barbershop singers, and as Rendezvous they have developed a style that is truly their own--a fresh, vibrant, energetic sound. This is their first CD, 16 songs ranging from jazz, pop, swing, and folk to gospel: 'I'm Beginning to See the Light,' 'Two Sleepy People,' Simon & Garfunkle's '59th Street Bridge Song,' 'So Wrong,' 'Somebody Loves Me,' 'A World of Our Own,' the very funny 'The Red Corvette' and finishing with the beautiful 'Gospel Medley.' There's a particularly fun 'Silly Songs Medley' from the Swing era, and 'Somebody Loves Me' is done as the original Gershwin song from 1924, then as the Four Freshmen's jazz version. Beautiful harmonies, good humor, strong arrangements-it adds up to an excellent first CD for Rendezvous! |
