The Chicago News were formed in 1979 and retired in 1985, winning a silver, and then gold medal, in between. Having re-united, this stalwart quartet proves that it still has the mettle. Swiping and sliding, with a dense and hearty blend, their sound emphasizes rich tonality over complex embellishment. "Everything Old Is New Again" is particularly appropriate, and "I Want A Girl," "My Gal Sal" and "Heart Of My Heart" will satisfy those who prefer their Society favorites. "Together/The Three Of Us" is a comic recognition that "we're a whole lot better with four," - listen to that tag, descending through two fifths for effect. When it comes to singing a love song, such as "Didn't We," "If" or "The Way We Were," Chicago News show that silver hair hasn't compromised their charm one bit. |
