The CARA acronym stands for the 'Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards,' produced by CASA. These eighteen selections are a varied representation of many styles, including pop, world, barbershop and classical. This year's recipients include m-pact for their awesome version of Earth Wind and Fire's 'Fantasy,' the Alley Cats' 'Tears On My Pillow' - surely the most tuneful and exciting doo-wop group to emerge in a while - and 1998 Harmony Sweepstakes winners Metropolis, with 'Don't Blame Me.' Denmark's Vox P contribute their sultry 'Fly Me To The Moon,' Monkey Puzzle, their hypnotic 'Epitaph,' and the controversial Double Dong (a cappella punk?) provide the vocal gristle. Contemporary Christian artists Glad and Take 6 supply the polish with their usual exquisite arrangements. |
