Shortly after the release date of Vocal Point's debut CD in the fall of 1993, it became clear that there was huge interest, as 'instruments not included' became a runaway best-seller. The nine-man a cappella ensemble features a repertoire here that ranges from a tribute to the Swingles, 'Bach's Fugue in D Minor,' the doo-wop standard 'Drip Drop,' Gershwin's classic 'Summertime' and Terrence Trent D'Arby's 'Sign Your Name' to U2's 'With Or Without You' and the Scottish folk song 'Scottish Spring.' Originally produced by the group, this album joined the Tantara catalog when Vocal Point became a program of the BYU School of Music and signed on with Tantara. 19 songs: a silly rap takeoff on children's rhymes in 'Child's Play,' a jazzy 'Paper Moon,' the sweet 'E'en So, Lord Jesus,' the updated sea shanty 'Hey Ho, Away We Go,' the salsa-flavored 'Brrlak!,' 'instruments' continually surprises. Fresh, fun, energetic, often manic contemporary a cappella from never-boring Vocal Point! |
