Bara Vox

 Bara Vox

Mixed Vocal Jazz Sextet from Stockholm, Sweden.

Bara Vox is a Swedish vocal group founded in 1995. Since then they have made several radio and TV performances - both locally and nationally - and performed on several CD-recordings, both as backing vocals and with their own material. Their first record has been played on radio stations all over the country and has also been featured on a Swedish hit list with the song "H?r ?r jag hemma" ("This is my home"). Bara Vox is touring throughout Sweden and performing on everything from festivals to conference dinners (but has also performed on such unusual occasions as "after ski" and a football-game between Sweden and Austria). They usually do about 40 performances each year. In style it's easiest to compare Bara Vox with groups like "The Real Group", "Vox One" and "The Swingle singers" but they have created their own style.

They also perform a lot of our own material. All songs are arranged by members of the group. Bara Vox sings a mixture of contemporary a cappella and vocal jazz. Bara Vox consists of six singers between 20 and 30 years of age, all from ...stersund in Sweden. All have some kind of musical education and most also work as musicians in other constellations. Their common link is the love of music and the interest in what is possible to create with the human voice only. The human voice or "Vox Humana" was the original name of the group, but when a Swedish political party with the same name started to make headlines, they realized it was time for a change. Everyone had gotten attached to the "Vox" part of the name though, and since they couldn't call themselves only "Vox", they choose the name "Bara Vox" or "Only Vox" which is the English translation.

Bara Vox : We're Going Up

Review: Bara Vox translates Only Voice. And only the voices of the six singers from Sweden who span the entire range of the human voice from mezzo soprano to bass will be what you hear on this fabulous second recording of contemporary and jazz tunes. A touch of signal processing creates the vocal flourishes which sound like a Hammond Organ on "Were Going Up," one of the joyous originals. If you wish to let your heart fly on a lyrical romantic tune "Two Steps From Heaven" will do it. All the songs but one children's folk song are sung in English and about half will be familiar covers, but not the arrangements which are absolutely original!

Songlist: Five Years Old, Autumn Leaves, We're Going Up, Drive My Car, Little One, One Note Samba, Two Steps From Heaven, Shine On Him, Away, Ett Gammalt Fult Och Elakt Troll, ABBA, Millennium, Round Midnight
