A male quintet from England has recorded a dynamite selection of tunes from
the thirties and forties. First a historical note. In England as early s Shakespeare's
day it was a habit for barbers to keep a lute or guitar handy so patrons could
while away the time by singing songs, snatches, catches, roundelays, glees and
madrigals depending upon the season. Close harmony was the embellishment of
the barbershop venue over the glee club chorus singing. It came to America eventually
to be formalized in our barbershop quartet style. The Demon Barbers are wonderful
singers in the original close harmony style.
