Joan Frey Boytim

Joan Frey Boytim was honored by Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Joan Frey Boytim is nationally known in the field of voice instruction. In her workshops and presentations at many events over the years, especially at the conventions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she has shared her expertise with thousands of other voice teachers. Through her ability to articulate to other teachers the special issues in guiding young singers, Mrs. Boytim has become the most recognized American expert in training the young voice. For over forty-five years Mrs. Boytim has taught voice in her private studio in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It is unusual that a teacher of Mrs. Boytim' caliber has devoted herself almost exclusively to teaching teenagers to sing, which has been her passion.

Mrs. Boytim was educated at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a bachelor of Music degree, and Master's Degree of Music Education, with continuing education at Indiana University (Bloomington) and the Staatlich Hochschule fur Musik (Munich). Her voice studies were with Ernestine Hohl Williams, Gladys Dunkelberger, Anna Kayssler-Beblo and Elizabeth mannion. In addition to being a singer, Mrs. Boytim is also an accomplished French horn player and piano accompanist..

There has been widespread accceptance by teachers and students of 'The First Book Series,' so it was only natural that there would be a 'Part II' book compiled. The Part II books follow many of the same concepts which are covered in the Preface of the original volumes, including a comprehensive selection of between 34 and 37 songs from the Baroque through the 20th Century. The selections range from easy to moderate difficulty for both singer and accompanist. At the request of the students and teachers, there are more sacred songs, and two Christmas solos have been added to each book. Also included are two enhanced CDs, giving you the ability to not only play the accompaniments on both your CD player and computer, but they are also CD-ROMs that are capable of playing the tracks at different tempos and in different keys when played on the computer.
