Dr. Brady R. Allred, winner of the coveted Conductor's Prize, conducts the Univ. of Utah Singers, about 45 mixed voices first organized in 2003. Known around the world for 'exquisite choral singing,' the group has won top honors in major festivals, such as Grand Prizes at the Florilege Vocal de Tours International Choir Competition and the European Grand Prix International Choir Competition. They have also won awards for performances of their commissioned pieces. 'Alleluia' has 21 selections, with familiar songs like the traditional 'Peace Like a River,' 'My Song in the Night,' Paul Manz' 'E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come,' and the traditional tunes 'How Can I Keep From Singing' and 'Jesus, Once of Humble Birth.' Less familiar, but equally lovely, are a pair by Rene Clausen, 'Set Me as a Seal' and 'All Ye That Hath Life and Breath Praise The Lord;' a pair by Bob Chilcott, 'The Singing Heart' and 'God So Loved The World;' Daniel Gawthrop's 'Sing A Mighty Song,' Allen Pote's 'Prayer of St. Francis,' and a pair by Stephen Paulus, 'The Road Home' and 'Peace Like A River.' The Singers have a rich, angelic sound, and the often difficult material is performed with effortless grace and beauty! |
