This recording groups together religious songs from the Nebbiu area of Corsica. It includes prayers for Holy Week, a sixteenth century Genoese processional song and the 'Vultum Tuum Mass.' An ancient Roman Mass, this piece has many Byzantine elements and was found in Corsica as early as the seventh century. It was suppressed for nearly a thousand years due to a Roman prohibition in the eleventh century. A very spiritual piece, it is said to possess a miraculous quality. This is a unique recording due to the unusual vocal technique of the singers as well as the innovative repertoire from the Nebbiu region. |
