The Singing Statesmen celebrated their 40th Anniversary Season in 2005-6 as one of the premier university male choruses in the US. Founder Morris D. Hayes sought to create an outstanding choral ensemble for male voices and directed the choir from 1966 to 1988, followed by Bruce G. McInnes from 1988 to 1990, and Gary R. Schwartzhoff from 1991 to the present. The Statesmen have performed to appreciate audiences at ACDA Conventions, and on five International Concert Tours, including one to Rio de Janieiro, Brazil in 2005. These 16 songs appropriately begin with 'The Star Spangled Banner' and J.A. Parks' 'O Home Beloved,' Randall Thompson's 4 part 'The Testament of Freedom,' Franz Biebl's 'Pater Noster,' Benjamin Britten's 'The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard,' Z. Randall Stroope's 'Dies Irae,' Lee Hoiby's a cappella 'Private First Class Jesse Givens,' 'Battle Hymn of the Republic,' a pair of African-American Folksongs, 'The Morning Trumpet' and 'Poor Man Lazrus' and 'By the Sword'/'Sons of Dixie' by Frank Wildhorn/Tom Anderson. You will surely enjoy the wonderful, rich harmonies and powerful lyrics from this spirited, renowned veteran Collegiate ensemble! There is some piano accompaniment.
