More great classical material for progressing vocal students, from the leading American expert in teaching the young voice. The series started with The First Book of Solos, and then, at the same difficulty level, came The First Book of Solos - Part II. The Second Book of Solos, originally released in 1993, is for singers who have taken voice a little longer and are capable of more challenges, but is still decidedly student-level material, and music that can be sung by good high school students. The new The Second Book of Solos - Part II set is at exactly the same level as The Second Book of Solos. It shares the same features: a deliberate variety of music in different styles and languages, including a few sacred selections, with over 30 songs per book. Available as books only, or in packs with two CDs of piano accompaniments recorded by Laura Ward. |

Joan Boytim, who compiled the widely-used series The First Book of Solos, is the most respected name in publications for the developing singer. She brings her expertise and vast knowledge of vocal literature into the sacred genre with these collections, which present traditional sacred solos for classical voice and piano. Ranging from classics by Bach and Mozart to early 20th century favorites and rarities, the 43 songs Ð some long out of print Ð span from easy to more challenging, but all are within the realm of a reasonable, 'classical' solo for a church service. |

Lovers, Lasses and Spring complements The First Book of Soprano Solos and The First Book of Soprano Solos Part II. It is a selection of beginning coloratura songs, to be used to teach vocal agility, and comes with an accompaniment CD. The songs are all in English, and the ranges tend to explore the higher end of the soprano voice, using melismas and scale passages within a moderately florid style of singing. The style of music in Lovers, Lasses and Spring permits a freedom of singing that allows the voice to soar, something that sopranos really enjoy at this stage of development. |

There has been widespread accceptance by teachers and students of 'The First Book Series,' so it was only natural that there would be a 'Part II' book compiled. The Part II books follow many of the same concepts which are covered in the Preface of the original volumes, including a comprehensive selection of between 34 and 37 songs from the Baroque through the 20th Century. The selections range from easy to moderate difficulty for both singer and accompanist. At the request of the students and teachers, there are more sacred songs, and two Christmas solos have been added to each book. Also included are two enhanced CDs, giving you the ability to not only play the accompaniments on both your CD player and computer, but they are also CD-ROMs that are capable of playing the tracks at different tempos and in different keys when played on the computer. |
