The CCW is recognized as one of the finest children's choral ensembles in the country, and comprises four performing ensembles, Treble Chorus, Bel Canto Chorus, Chamber Chorus and the 72-strong Concert Chorus. In all, 170 young mixed-voice singers, ages 9-17, who hail from many different communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, are members of the four choruses. The Chorus is directed by highly acclaimed and awarded (including Outstanding Arts Educator in the U.S.) Founder and Artistic Director Joan Gregoryk. Favorites among the 23 mostly accompanied songs are Brunner's 'Jubilate Deo,' Palestrina's 'Salve Regina,' Reger's 'Maria Wiegenlied,' Chilcott's 'Hey! Now,' Leavitt's 'Ose Shalom,' Hairston's 'Mary's Little Boy Child,' the world premier of Barnwell's 'Discovered,' Copland's 'I Bought Me A Cat' and 'Ching-Ring Chaw;' and the combined choruses with legendary Sweet Honey in the Rock, singing Barnwell's 'Wanting Memories' and 'We Are,' Kahlil's 'Fulani Chant' and Johnson Reagon's 'Ella's Song.' Renowned and awarded Founder & Artistic Director Joan Gregoryk leads two parts of her Children's Chorus of Washington (DC), the mixed-voice, 9-17 years old singers of the Treble Chorus and Bel Canto Chorus in a live, accompanied collection of songs from their 2006-2007 Season of concert performances. There are 26 songs, well chosen for the high ranges of these young singers. This live recording of the Concert Chorus from Children's Chorus of Washington, led by Joan Gregoryk with accompanist Donald Cotton, features pieces from the 2002 holiday and 2003 spring concerts. Selections include 'Personent Hodie,' arranged by Rutter, 'The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy,' arranged by Emerson, 'Salut Printemps,' by Debussy, 'My Heart's in the Highlands,' by Bisbee and 'O Sapo,' by Hatfield. The holiday and spring concerts by Treble Chorus of the Children's Chorus of Washington are heard on this live recording. From their holiday concert they sing 'The Angel Choir and the Trumpeter,' by Dedrick, 'Hine Ma Tov,' by Naplan and 'The Friendly Beast,' arranged by Kesselman. Many numbers are accompanied by a brass choir. Their spring concert included 'Bist du bei mir,' by J.S. Bach, 'The Nursery Rhyme Cantata,' by Page and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo,' arranged by Schmutte. The chorus also sings several numbers with the Concert Chorus. |

Now in its 9th season, the CCW, 130 singers ages 9-17 in 2 performing ensembles, the Concert Chorus and Treble Chorus is among the finest choral ensembles in the country and has appeared with symphonies like the National Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic, and has toured extensively in the US and Europe. All accompanied, '2004-2005 Season' has 19 cuts, beginning with a live Holiday Concert by the Concert Chorus, the Christmas medley 'Salvator Mundi,' the spirited 'Ma Navu' and 'Mayim, Mayim,' and the joyous 'Christmas natus hodie;' the Chamber Ensemble's 'Up! Good Christian Folk, and Listen' and the combined Choruses' 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.' Cuts 9-19 are a live Spring Concert of 'The Nightingale,' an orchestrally-accompanied Choral Opera for Young Voices, based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Robert Tudor, baritone, Robert Baker, tenor and Katherine Caughlan, soprano have some nice solos in this dramatic, romantic tale. Very professional, impressive material from the CCW, founded so recently by the talented Ms. Gregoryk. |

The Treble Chorus of the Children's Chorus of Washington which features 64 voices of children ages 9-17, brings us this nice collection of 22 songs from their 2005 Holiday Concert and 2006 Spring Concert, with Stephen Hatfield as guest composer/conductor. Favorites are 'This is the Truth,' Daley's 'Sweet Was the Song the Virgin Sang,' 'Torah Orah,' 'Sh'Ma Yisrael,' 'Jingle Bell Swing,' Handel' 'Hallelujah Chorus' from Messiah, the title tune, Mozart's 'Laudate Dominum,' Stephen Hatfield's 'Foggy Birthday Shuffle,' and the spiritual 'Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.' There is light to heavy accompaniment on most tunes. 'Where the Music' is a beautiful, entertaining collection from these talented young singers. |

Some favorites are John Rutter's 'Star Carol,' 'Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day' and 'Jesus Child,' '!El Cielo, Cant Alegria,' 'Sleigh Ride,' 'Cantate Domino,' the lovely 'Child With the Starry Crayon,' two 'Scenes from the Magic Flute' by Mozart, and Stephen Hatfield's 'La Lluvia' and 'Run, Children, Run.' There is light to heavy accompaniment on most songs. This is all beautiful and moving music from this excellent Chorus. |
