50-strong Philadelphia-based mixed-voice a cappella chorus is the brainchild of international award-winning director Muck, who realized her dream in 2000 with the first rehearsals of the Pops. Taking music from the world's songbook and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame (Duke Ellington, Elton John, Billy Joel, Lennon & McCartney, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein to name a few), the Pops reinterprets their great tunes with a unique blend of vocal precision and the sheer joy of performing. 12 tunes on "Happy," their debut CD, and how to pick favorites among songs like the title tune, "Misty," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "Good Vibrations," "Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)," "Yesterday," "All the Things You Are," "Zoot Suit Riot," "19th Century Medley" and "Time to Say Goodbye?" We can't, so we'll just sit back, like the Pops' audiences, and enjoy the ride‹as the Pops and Director Muck are clearly doing! |
