Soundstage

SoundStage constantly impresses audiences both at home and abroad with their tight, unexpected harmonies and passionate delivery. Founded in 2006, their 2008 win of the LA Regional Harmony sweepstakes has catapulted them to appear on ABC's "The View" as well as a touring headline performance for the 2009 International Contemporary A Cappella Festival in Taipei, Taiwan. Their consistent jazz sensibility (with an infusion of funk) has taken them from shopping malls, to professional sporting events, to international conferences, to high school auditoriums, to county fairs, and local churches, where they have been described as "the white, suburban step-child of Take 6 and Earth, Wind, and Fire."

Stella

Stella is an a cappella group of seven women from North Carolina. About their free-ranging tastes, Stella member Julie Mooney says, "We have seven very different women with wildly diverse musical passions bringing new song possibilities to the table all the time. The quality of each of our voices is also pretty different. Those two ingredients, plus the flexibility of a cappella as a musical form, keep us compulsively eclectic." Since assembling loosely in 1998 to sing favorite songs among themselves, Stella has moved on to public performances at house concerts and such venues as the NC Museum of Art, Festival for the Eno, Artsplosure, Light Up Durham, and the LEAF festival in Black Mountain, NC.

Straight No Chaser

The group originally came together in the fall of 1996 at IU, basically as "10 guys who happened to be good friends who also liked to sing." Choosing the members carefully for personality as well as vocal talent - Stine, Mechling, Jerome Collins, David Roberts and Walter Chase remain from the original lineup -- SNC set itself apart from other a cappella groups with its contemporary repertoire and dynamic approach, quickly headlining concerts both in Bloomington and on road dates. SNC recorded three independent albums, and John Mellencamp even invited the group to his home for a private performance.

When the founders began graduating in 1999 and went on to jobs mostly outside of music, they chose replacements and established SNC as an ongoing group on campus with future generations of ambitious IU undergrads. More than 50 members have passed through the group's ranks so far.

Vocal Sampling

Vocal Sampling may sound like a full salsa band - but in reality their unique sound is created by a six piece all-male Cuban a-capella group. All the instruments of the Latin Orchestra - percussion, horns, keyboard, bass - are vocally reproduced with astonishing accuracy for their hugely entertaining set of classic boleros, rumbas, and salsa, as wells as more contemporary compositions.

From there they travel all over the country, crossing bridges and borders to the outside of the country, to let people enjoy the euphony of their voices.

Vocal Six have been on the right track(s) for some time now. A few of them may be found in any average Swedish record collection. So far they have recorded six CDs, six sets of vocal items that guarantee musical satisfaction for nearly everyone.

Vocaldente

The press is unanimous: vocaldente's "singing technique is professional", their "verve is phenomenal", and they're "sparkling with imagination". Critics say they offer a "high level in singing performance", with their "funny spoken interludes" and "imaginative, passionate choreography" - and that they're known for the "professionalism in their performance": Onstage they're "fitting and harmonic", "witty and fresh", "charming and professional" ...simply "harmonic, funny and good with a refreshing naturalness."

But vocaldente have also impressed on the international stage, convincing jurors from all areas of vocal and a cappella music, from classical style to voice pop, such as John Potter (former The Hilliard Ensemble member), Ward Swingle (founder of The Swingle Singers) and Anders Jalkeus (The Real Group). Voice Male

Voice Male has been made up of six very different individuals who somehow found each other over 16 years ago. With the passing of Phil Kesler, they have decided to honor his wish that Voice Male continue on. John Luthy came up with the Voice Male concept while singing with some of the guys in the Logan LDS Institute Choir. Soon nine guys set out to sing at every event they could get their hands on. You might have recognized them from such events as Timmy's 3rd birthday party or the 4th ward Relief Society social. A year later, they lost three members and unfortunately, none of them were ever found. Over the years, they expanded their reach further and further, traveling to several states and to Mexico, performing over 120 songs for thousands of fans. They have been blessed to have many enriching opportunities to perform in great locations for great people. Considering this is not their day job, they are lucky to pull together and accomplish anything at this point. They all graduated into careers ranging from Computer Networking to Real Estate to Law. When they are not working or singing, they are enjoying time with their supportive wives and children. The latest tally: 20 children who like to call each other Voice Male Cousins. Who knows what is in store for the future of Voice Male. It doesn't really matter, because the past has been pretty great.

Voiceboys

Six talented young Swedish men bring us an exuberant, fun CD of well-chosen classic top-40 US covers, startlingly arranged, with innovative, powerful vocal percussion. 13 songs: Prince's 'Kiss' and 'Sign of the Times' ben e. king's 'Stand By Me,' Seals & Crofts' 'Summer Breeze,' the BeeGees' 'Stayin' Alive,' Tom Jones' (and it totally sounds like him)'It's Not Unusual,' Carole King's 'You've Got a Friend,' Wilson Pickett's 'In The Midnight Hour,' our favorite song on the album,'Does Your Mother Know,' Sting's 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,' Smokey Robinson's 'My Girl,' 'Hooked on a Feeling' and 'The Great Pretender. There's nothing but Swedish on their website, (although the songs are in perfect English), and almost no info on the liner notes but 'Voiceboys' speaks for itself with the kind of vocal juice that made songs like 'Midnight Hour' and 'My Girl' instant classics when they first came out. These guys clearly loved this music when growing up, and love a cappella - the result is one of the best contemporary CDs we've heard this year!

Vybration

Vybration was formed in 2001 to perform at Disney's California Adventure under the name "Groove 66". The band quickly became the park's most popular atmosphere group. Its members are some of the most powerful, versatile, and in demand vocalists in all of Southern California with resume credits spanning from broadway, television, and film, to orignial rock bands, and pioneering modern music projects. Vybration is unlike many acapella sextets out there, covering a variety of music that includes traditional jazz tunes like Blue Skies and Fly Me to the Moon, rock n roll songs like Lenny Kravitz's Fly Away, pop hits such as Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Startin Something and many many more. All that have witnessed the magic in music that Vybration creates can tell you that, "Vybration is a force to be reckoned with!"

Whiffenpoofs

Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Founded in 1909, the "Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions.

More than 100 years ago, on a frosty January night in New Haven, Connecticut, five of the Yale Glee Club's best singers convened at Mory's Temple Bar to escape the cold. Louis Linder, the tavern's barkeep and a music aficionado, welcomed them in, beginning an institution that survives to this day.

Of those original five singers, four were members of the Glee Club's prestigious Varsity Quartet, a group that sang together regularly at various alumni events. Unwilling to restrict themselves to performances at public functions, the group began to meet on a weekly basis at Mory's, where they improvised harmonies to the songs they loved so well. These weekly meetings soon became a hallowed tradition amongst the singers.

Wo'Xang

woXang - female a cappella quartet from Innsbruck, Austria. (*2002). wo stands for "women" and Xang is the Austrian dialect word for "singin'". 4 women 4 lives 4 voices 4 styles 1 sound

The CD was released in April 2007 and comprises mostly woXang compositions and some of the best cover songs. The second album "1plus" is to be seen as a continuation or expansion of the first album.
