Copper Wimmin are three obstreperous young women who set audiences on fire with their brilliant lyrics, haunting voices and fierce harmonies. They create a sacred hurricane of sound which leaves their audiences spellbound and often, in tears. Creating a buzz wherever they go, these vocal amazons have been singing together since they were twelve years old. They have evolved a sound so moving, so pure, that upon hearing them many recall a collective memory in which women sang together in caves and cathedrals before time began. Copper Wimmin are a sonic epiphany. They weave their voices together so expertly that it is hard to know where one voice ends and the other begins. The combined impact of the arrangements, lyrical content and outrageous stage presence is that of a sublime sledgehammer effortlessly crashing through the door that separates the soulless from the sacred. Also appearing on the Bay Area Regionals stage in 1999, they were also finalists in the Lilith Fair talent search.

American Tyranny
Review: Born of conviction, an indictment of repression and discrimination, and a celebration of female energy and power, 'American Tyranny' is unambiguous in its message and intent. Musically, it is best described as modern chant; fundamental harmonic intervals, unembellished arrangements and monophonic textures dominate, created from gut-level emotion that could be termed instinctual. 'Euphemism' is a rejection of the dominant white-male paradigm, 'Ay Yi' a primal lament. Produced by June Millington, the guitarist of the pioneering women's rock group Fanny.

Review: We have personally enjoyed hearing the three beautiful young women who call themselves Copper Wimmin live at the Bay Area Harmony Sweeps Regionals and West Coast A Cappella Summits. The titles of their powerful, feminist, poetic, beautifully-sung songs are: 'Actual Tongue,' 'Show Us,' 'Ballad Of The Lonely,' 'Caboose,' 'Onje,' 'Iris,' 'Candra,' 'Fish,' 'Caveman,' 'Bottle,' 'Not Silenced' and 'Nothing Wrong.' The imagery is strong and thought-provoking, as in this line from 'Bottle:' 'I'm the bottle that everybody shakes, But I never, I never breakÉ' One warning-and this is a first for us, although it's very tastefully done, there is partial nudity on the cover and in all the photos of the group inside the beautiful liner notes. The pure, soaring vocals blend perfectly, adding weight and feeling to what is being sung. 'Etheric' is a work of art on many levels!

Bleeding Rivers
Review: Sebastopol, CA's beautiful, etheric trio brings us their third stunning, poetic work of art. We have seen Copper Wimmin live at the Harmony Sweeps Regionals and Summit, and heard their pure, intricately woven harmonies and powerful modern chants of peace, feminism and justice, dressed as copper-clad goddesses. This is where we heard the opening cut, 'Freon Blue,' a post-apocalyptic/current vision of LA, for the first time, and remarked on its accuracy. 11 songs, most of them surprisingly, albeit beautifully, accompanied by cello, violin, guitar, bass and Wurlitzer. Some favorites are 'Ink,' 'Kito,' '1/5 Water,' 'Oasis,' 'First Breath' and 'Kinder.' Colorful liner notes with all the lyrics are enclosed. 'The Right' is a treat for the eyes, the ears and particularly the mind!
Songlist: Freon Blue, Bleeding Rivers, Ink, Kito, Winters Bleak, 1/2 Water, Oasis, Mirrors, Love Song, First Breath, Kinder
