Cincinnati Boychoir

Cincinnati Boychoir

Founded in 1965 under the auspices of the Cincinnati Public Schools, the Cincinnati Boychoir has presented approximately thirty-five annual performances in the Greater Cincinnati community and for local television stations, community organizations, churches, clubs, and retirement homes. Boys audition for the choir by recommendation of school music teachers, and come from all areas of southwest Ohio, southeast Indiana, and northern Kentucky.

The Boychoir has performed at the invitation of and in collaboration with the Cincinnati Opera, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and May Festival Chorus, the Metropolitan Festival Choir and Orchestra of Detroit, the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Boys' Choir. The boys have appeared at the Crystal Cathedral, aired internationally on the Hour of Power, and at Carnegie Hall as part of the Field Studies International Honors Children's Choir. The choir has been featured recently on many local radio and television stations, including WGUC, Cincinnati's classical music station, and both CBS and CNN nationally and internationally.

Soloists from the Boychoir have performed with the Dayton Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Opera, the Lebanon Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, the Wright State University Orchestra, the Middletown Symphony Orchestra, the Dayton Opera, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Miami University Symphony Orchestra and Choruses, the Sorg Opera, WCET-TV, the American Youth Choir in China and Europe, the Moscow Radio Symphony, the Leningrad Philharmonic, the CCM Concert Orchestra, the Miami University Men's Chorus, and the Scandinavian orchestras of Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. Six members of the Boychoir have gone on to join the world-famous Vienna Boys' Choir.

2010-2011 performances include Handel's Messiah with Collegium Cincinnati and Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Cincinnati May Festival and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The choir will perform on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in March 2011.

Review: 40 Years" is the 4th CD by the present incarnation of the 32-strong Boychoir, which has a yearly six-concert subscription series in Cincinnati, plus many outreach performances that include appearances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Boys Choir, Honolulu Symphony and many others. 17 songs, all accompanied by organ and piano. Some favorites are Johann Strauss' "On the Beautiful Blue Danube," Johann Roman's "Jubilate Deo," Simon Lindley's "Ave Maria," the lively Argentinian song "Escondido," the lovely "Hamabe No Uta" by Narita and Kitamura, the spiritual "Go Where I Send Thee," the Irish air "Danny Boy," Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria," "The King of Love," a traditional Irish hymn, "Amazing Grace," and a beautiful "Best of Walt Disney" medley. All accompanied of course, but wonderful arrangements and the sweet, clear voices of the boys make each cover seem new.

Cincinnati Boychoir : Gift Vol 2

Review: Founded in 1965, the Cincinnati Boychoir is divided into three groups; the Training Choir, Resident Choir, and the elite Touring Choir. Their Christmas CD, "Gift," is exactly that! Beginning with Josef Rheinburger's "Messe in A, Op. 125 and Benjamin Britten's 12-part "Ceremony of Carols," we proceed to 5 Christmas Carols, including "Joy to the World," the Sicilian hymn "O Sanctissima," and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." Then we have 4 "Holiday Songs with the Resident Choir," "Riu, Riu, Chiu," "Children's Song of the Nativity," "Nino Querido" and "Ding, Dong, Merrily on High; followed by 6 "Holiday Favorites," which include the German tune "Kling, Clockchen," "The Little Drummer Boy," "Toyland" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." All songs are accompanied by piano, harp and other instruments. As Christmas is about one special child, we particularly love beautiful Christmas music sung by a fine, well-directed children's choir like the Cincinnati Boychoir - it's a Gift!

Songlist: Messe in A, Op. 125, Gloria, A Ceremony of Carols , Processional, Wolcum, Yule!, There Is No Rose, That Yonge Child, Balulalow, As Dew in Aprille, The Little Babe, Interlude, Spring Carol, Deo Gracias, Recessional, Christmas Carols:, Joy the the World , O Sanctissima , Hark, the Herald Angels Sing , O come, All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, Holiday Songs with the Resident Choir, Riu, Riu, Chiu, Children's Song of the Nativity , Nino Querido , Ding, Dong, Merrily On High , Holiday Favorites, Kling, Glockchen, The Little Drummer Boy , Toyland , We Need a Little Christmas , and more
