The Sirens

The Sirens are one of New York City’s premiere female a cappella groups, dedicated to musical excellence and quality performance. A group of fabulous and talented women, they strive to break new music ground by choosing songs that have never been attempted by others in the cappella world in order to challenge themselves and surprise the audience. They balance fresh and innovative songs with numerous well-known and recognizable favorites. The result is a diverse repertoire including contemporary, pop, jazz, rock classics and oldies, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

The Sirens have been singing together since the Fall of 2000. In Greek mythology, sirens were beautiful sea nymphs who lured sailors to their doom with the irresistible charm of their song. Just like their mythological namesakes, The Sirens captivate all who hear them, however, doom and destruction on the rocks are not usually part of the bargain.

The Sirens enjoy performing for both private and public functions. They have entertained audiences around the tri-state area at corporate events, weddings, bar mitzvahs, and private parties. Special events have included a Harlem Fundraiser for President William Jefferson Clinton, a private engagement at Tavern on the Green, performances at MAKOR, an engagement at the President's House at Rockefeller University, First Night New Year's Eve celebrations in Westport, CT and Maplewood, NJ and Christmas caroling at the Bronx Zoo. The Sirens were also finalists in the Northeast Regional Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Competition. Recently, The Sirens completed their first full-length album entitled “Pre Musical Syndrome.” The Sirens will happily prepare requested material with advance notice. No matter who the audience, The Sirens pull out all the stops to make performances fun for the performers and crowd alike!

Not to be confused with the Collegiate ensemble USC Sirens, The Sirens were formed in New York City in the Fall of 2000, and are a Contemporary a cappella all-woman septet. "PreMusical Syndrome" is their debut CD, and it's an excellent one. 8 all-a cappella cover tunes, beginning with George Michael's "Freedom 90," Lenny Kravitz' "Fly Away," Radiohead's "High and Dry" and Amanda Marshall's "Sunday Morning After." Other winners are U2's "Pride," Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" and a very nice "TV Medley" that pushes a bunch of our nostalgia buttons. The Sirens have a fresh, clean, fun sound, we enjoyed every of "Syndrome" and we're looking forward to hearing more.
