Winners of Northern Harmony, The Canadian A Cappella Festival, in 2003, The CHICKAdivas cover a range of genres, impressing their audiences with the harmonies of well- known standards and their own original arrangements and songs. Whatever the song style, The CHICKAdivas set a high musical standard and without instruments. All members are experienced singers who have an ear for a good vocal production and blend. The result is a sweet, rich sound. The CHICKAdivas began with an interest in Canadian folk music from various regions across the country: Klondike saloon songs, Newfoundland sea- shanties, prairie settlement songs, Quebec folk songs and the all-time favourite, The Logdriver’s Waltz.

These 5 "a cappella chicks with swing and style" from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, who have been entertaining audiences together since 2002, and who were winners of Northern Harmony 2003, bring us their 2nd CD, a Christmas album, after their well-received debut CD, "Chick Us Out!" There are 16 spirited Christmas favorites here, particularly fine are Guylaine's solos on the Czech carol "Rocking" and "What You Gonna Name Him?," Marion's solos on traditional French carol "Entre le boeuf et l'ane gris" and the Austrian traditional carol "He Smiles Within His Cradle," Regina's solos on "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas," Rebecca's solo on Kirby Shaw's "Jamaican Noel," the title tune, a German Carol, with English lyrics by Regina, and the Kirby Shaw-arranged "White Christmas." A beautiful Christmas collection from Canada's talented CHICKAdivas.

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada's 5-woman "a cappella chicks with swing and style!" quintet Chickadivas found each other in a "cosmic event" in 2002, and in their first five years together they've gone through 4 sopranos and 4 altos, and won the Northern Harmony 2003 a cappella competition. Christmas concerts around Alberta have been very successful, and a sold-out concert in March celebrated the release of "Chick Us Out!," their debut CD. 10 songs, with some nice Canadian folk tunes like "Feller from Fortune," "The Morning Dew," "She's Like the Swallow," and the silly, sexy "The Log Driver's Waltz;" vintage rock classics like "Under the Boardwalk," "Lollipop" and B.E. King's "Stand By Me," the Swing anthem "Mr. Sandman," and, incongruously, the Eurythmics' hit, "Sweet Dreams." The Chickadivas have a fresh, innocent sound and obviously love what they're doing. "Chick Us Out" marks a promising beginning for one of Canada's best new a cappella groups!
