Bach Children's Chorus

The Bach Children’s Chorus (also known as BCC or the Choir) is a vibrant group of 200 young people aged 6 and up who love to sing. Founded in 1987, the BCC has developed a reputation throughout Greater Toronto for the beautiful, musical sound and professional approach of its four choirs. The organization consists of three treble voice choirs and an SATB youth choir. The objective of the Choir is to develop a love of singing through enjoyable learning and performance experiences. Each of the choirs regularly participates in weekend excursions involving festivals, workshops and concerts with other children’s choirs and world-renowned clinicians and conductors.

Music director Linda Beaupré received her Bachelor of Music degree with a major in music education and concentrations in piano and voice from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and her Master of Music degree with a major in vocal performance form the University of Western Ontario. She has taught school music and school choirs in Australia and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and for several years she was a soprano with the Elmer Iseler Singers and the Torronto Mendelssohn Choir. She has been director of the Bach Children’s Chorus since she founded it in 1987. Since 1991 she has also conducted the Guelph Youth Singers, founded in that year, which includes four choirs at differing levels of training.

Linda maintains an active schedule as clinician and adjudicator for other choirs. She has conducted children’s choir camps for the Toronto District School Board, the Choral Federations of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan, and she has adjudicated festivals in both Ontario and Newfoundland. In 1996 she received a Bi-Centennial Award of Merit from the City of Scarborough. These awards were given to 200 individuals, from throughout Scarborough’s 200 year history, whose achievements have brought honour and recognition to the City of Scarborough.

The Toronto, Canada-based Bach Children's Chorus and Bach Chamber Youth Choir, led by founder and Artistic Director Linda Beaupre, bring us this nice collection of live performances from 1991 to 2006, with performances under guest conductors Elmer Iseler and Jean Ashworth Bartle, and guest pianist Ruth Watson Henderson. The beautiful, extensive liner notes booklet contains a history of the group from their founding in 1987, and many photographs of the almost 200 children involved in four choirs. There are 21 songs by different groups and configurations of the choir, such as "Like as a Father" by the Massed Choirs, the spirituals "Ain't That News" and "Go Down Moses" by Choir III, "Behold the Beauty of the Lord" by the Bach Chamber Youth Choir, "My Shadow" by Choir I, "When the Tide Goes Out" and "Down By The Riverside" by Massed Choirs with Guest Dads. There's some magical material we're hearing for the first time, "The Piper and the Chiming Pea," "I'm A Train," "Raking Song," "The Bold Hunter" and others. Some light accompaniment. "Look to this Day" is a very enjoyable and upbeat collection.
