Sweet Adelines Recordings

The women may not have been singing barbershop as long as the men, but they've definitely made the art form their own. They push the limits, they ring the chords, they deliver tags that hang in the air so long you'd think they've grown wings. Barbershop may have its roots in American music, but there are terrific Sweet Adelines quartets and choruses all over the world, and we carry many of their albums. If you haven't discovered women's barbershop yet, what are you waiting for?

Swinglish Mix : Far and Wide onsale

Review: The 2003 Queens of Harmony show why they won the crowns on this new release as their amazing voices and crisp arrangements are front and center on this fine recording. Featuring a blend of both voices and nationalities (2 members live in Sweden the others in the US) this top-notch quartet sing some lesser-known gems along with a couple of classic medleys including the very clever "City Medley". The Harry Connick Jr. song "Whisper Your Name" is given a delightful rendition as is the Alan Menken gem "Little Patch of Heaven" from Disney's "Home On The Range". We particularly enjoyed the Phil Collins song "You'll Be In My Heart" and so will these talented singers once you have listened to this recording again and again.

Songlist: As Long As Your Not In Love With Anyone Else, Why Don't You Fall In Love With Me, Undecided Medley, If I Could Only Whisper Your Name, There, I've Said It Again, I'm Afraid Conventions Almost Over, When The Cactus Is In Bloom, Var Sista Dans, Little Patch Of Heaven, You'll Be In My Heart, City Medley, When I Fall In Love

Swinglish Mix : Live and Well

Review: Louisville, KY-based Swinglish Mix have medaled at Sweet Adelines conventions since their inception, starting with a fourth place finish in Salt Lake City in 1997, third in Orlando, FL, third again in Portland, OR, and finally striking Gold in Nashville, making them 2003 International champs! Eleanor Hawkins, Suzanne Harrington, Patty Hawley and Naima Meyer did at one time all live in Louisville, Ky., three of them as members of Pride of Kentucky Chorus, and this is where they got their start as a quartet. The title was a second for lead Suzanne and bass Naima, who won with the Growing Girls quartet in 1989. "Live and Well" is a nice mix of the group's best, including 2 very funny live cuts from Nashville, "The Moment I Saw Your Eyes" and "Don't Worry, Be Happy." There's also a live version of the song that won it for them in Nashville, "Last Night On the Back Porch." "The Little Girl/Boy" is a heartstring-tugger with the best of them, as is "Mistakes," "I Can Dream, Can't I" "Down Among the Sugarcane" and "What'll I Do." 13 tunes, many of them live. Sexy, funny, able to belt and bend chords as well as any Sweet Ads quartet we've ever heard-it's no accident they're wearing tiaras and gold medals on the cover of "Live & Well!" Highly Recommended

Songlist: Sing Sing Sing (With A Swing), Last Night on the Back Porch, What'll I Do, The Moment I Saw Your Eyes, The Little Girl/Boy, Flirty Eyes, Don't Worry Be Happy, Mistakes, When My Baby Smiles At Me, It's Your Song, Down Among the Sugarcane, I Can Dream Can't I, You Can't Do That

Symmetry : Finally!

Review: Texas-based Sweet Adelines quartet Symmetry's debut recording is a sumptuous winner, with some very funny stuff ("The Baritone Blues," "The Moment I Saw My Thighs," "Love Potion No. 9" and "Freddie Feel Good and His Funky Little Four-Piece Band," romantic heart-tuggers ("Oh How I Miss You Tonight," "Roses of Yesterday" and "It's a Pity to Say Goodnight)" bluesy tunes ("The Birth of the Blues" and "The Last Blues Song") and upbeat foot-tappers "Take Me to the Land of Jazz," "When My Baby Smiles at Me" and "When My Baby Smiles at Me"). There's lots of favorites here, and a great start for sweet-sounding, very entertaining Symmetry.

Songlist: Take Me To The Land Of Jazz, The Birth Of Blues, The Baritone Blues, Oh How I Miss You Tonight, When My Baby Smiles At Me, The Moment I Saw My Thighs, Love Potion No. 9, Roses Of Yesterday, You Are My Sunshine, The Last Blues Song, Freddie Feel Good And His Funky Little Four Piece Band, It's A Pity To Say Goodnight, Orange-Colored Sky

Touche : Touche : 1 CD :

Listen to
Smile

Touche : Touche

Review: From the 2013 International Queens of Harmony comes a wonderful recording of adroitly arranged and exquisitely sung standards and classics. Charlie Chaplin's "Smile" actually makes you smile, Larry Wright's arrangement of "As Long As I'm Singing" makes you want to sing and "The Way You Look Tonight" will have you making googly eyes at your significant other! This is the kind of recording that puts you in a great mood and leaves you singing away long after the recording is finished.

Songlist: Smile, For Once in My Life, Auld Lang Syne, As Long As I'm Singing, Come Rain or Come Shine, Midnight Choo Choo, Someone Like You, The Night We Called It A Day, Abide With Me, Hooray For Love, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, A-Tisket A-Tasket, The Way You Look Tonight, It Is Well With My Soul

UnderAge : We Go Together

Review: We caught a live performance by this talented young Sweet Adelines quartet at the Harmony Sweeps Bay Area Regionals a year or two ago, and joined the audience in rousing ovations. 16-year-old Brittany, 17-year-old Mary, 15-year-old Mia and 18-year-old Caitlin are seasoned performers who touch audiences with their wit, humor and charm as well as their sweet harmonies. "We Go Together" features 12 tunes, Barbershop chestnuts like "Georgia On My Mind," "Last Night on the Back Porch" and "Whatever Happened to the Old Songs" and "Once Upon A Time;" show tunes like "I Feel Pretty," "Angel of Music/Phantom of the Opera" and "We Go Together" from "Grease;" and pop tunes like the Rascals' "Feeling Groovy," Billy Joel's "And So It Goes," and "Happy Days/Get Happy Duet" featuring Brittany and Mia. We have to send some strokes to Sweet Adelines for cultivating and encouraging groups like UnderAge, who are off to a great start as budding Sweet Adelines, and a cappella, stars!

Songlist: Georgia On My Mind, Last On The Back Porch, Once Upon a Time, Feeling Groovy, Can You Feel he Love Tonight, I Feel Pretty, Waking Up Is HArd To Do, And So It Goes, Whatever Happend To The Good Old Songs, Angel Of Music / Phantom Of The Opera, We Go Together, Happy Days / Get Happy Duet

Unplugged : Electrified

Review: These four talented women, three from the Seattle area and one from Vancouver, BC, seem to be on a fast track to Sweet Adelines acclaim. They came together from a variety of award-winning ensembles to form Unplugged in January 2001, and have been wowing audiences with their distinctive sound, dynamic expression and delightful comedy ever since. Less than a year after their first rehearsal, they captured 11th place at the 2001 International competition, and in March, they ventured into the wide world of a cappella and won second place at the Pacific Northwest Harmony Sweepstakes regional. a ninth place finish at the 2002 Sweet Adelines Internationals in Nashville was followed by 6th place in 2004 in Phoenix! 16 spirited tunes, plus bonus track "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep." Some favorites: "It Ain't What You Do," the very funny "I Can Cook, Too," "Two Tickets to Georgia/Sentimental from Georgia," "It is Well With My Soul," the CASA-nominated "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," "The Moment I Say Your Eyes" and "I Love To Hear That Old Barbershop Style." Unplugged can harmonize and belt 'em with the best of them, they pick great music, and have excellent arrangements-which is why they'll be panning for Gold at next year's Internationals!

Review: Legendary foursome High Society's (Connie Noble, Kim Hulbert, Sandy Shelver and Pat Vozza) being named Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champions in 1976 led to a long, wonderful career, with concerts all over North America, a USO Tour and four top-selling albums, "High Society," "On the Road Again," "By Design" and "Fascinatin'." For all their loyal fans over the years, and for those who have never had the chance to savor the buttery harmonies, sweet leads and ringing, hairs-on-the-back-of-your-neck-tingling held chords of one of Sweet Adelines' all-time great champions, we would highly recommend "Celebrating High Society." Panache : Four Friends - Best of out of print

Review: The Bad News is, the former Sweet Adelines Queens of Harmony, the four lovely, talented women of Panache, have disbanded and are no longer singing together as a group. The Good News is, they left us this wonderful 2-CD set to remember them by! We won't go into the individual titles, but suffice to say that there's a "whole bunch" of our favorites on these two CDs, including selections from discontinued Panache titles. These are the songs that took them to Sweet Adelines Gold, and that made them one of our best selling Barbershop titles. These four beloved entertainers are leaving exactly the way they came into our lives - with Panache. Enjoy!
